You will be the Infrared Low Observables Engineer for the Low Observables team (Signature Management & Survivability) which is responsible for advancing infrared susceptibility and low‑observable technology across the entire aircraft survivability lifecycle.



What You Will Be Doing


As the Infrared Low Observables Engineer you will be responsible for leading technical efforts that shape the next generation of stealth‑focused infrared solutions.


"Your responsibilities will include:"



  • Perform and communicate vehicle signature predictions using Unix‑based codes, EO/IR ray‑trace, Monte Carlo, CEM, MoM, and geometric/physical optics.

  • Conduct laboratory measurements of material coupons to determine optical, electrical, and environmental properties.

  • Design, prototype, and test advanced infrared materials, coatings, and hardware components.

  • Develop and maintain signature prediction tools in C++, Java, and Fortran, creating algorithms for novel problem solving.

  • Lead multidisciplinary design teams and interface with customers, Government forums, and program reviews to drive R&D plans and transition to production.

Who You Are


You are a highly motivated engineer with deep expertise in infrared phenomenology, stealth signature reduction, and computational electromagnetics. You excel at translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights and thrive both independently and within small, high‑performing teams. Your strong communication skills, customer‑focused mindset, and proven ability to lead technical initiatives make you an ideal fit for this role.



Further Information About This Opportunity


MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must possess an active Secret clearance to start.


Basic Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Optics
- Experience in IR, optics, photonics, CEM, RF, or electromagnetics
- U.S. Citizenship
Desired Skills:
-Master’s degree or above in one of the following fields: Engineering, Physics, or Optics
- Expertise with heat transfer, thermodynamics, radiometry, aircraft jet propulsion, atmospherics and weather, infrared search and track systems, EO/IR sensors, EO/IR focal plane array solid state physics, IR optics, coatings and thin films
- Proficiency with one or more scripting languages such as csh, bash, python, or Matlab
- Previous experience in low observables (LO), survivability, or susceptibility
- Experience in infrared (IR) signature, IR cameras/sensors, radar cross section (RCS),
- Expertise in LO modeling and predictions: Computational electromagnetics (CEM) EO/IR
- Experience with LO integration / multi-discipline air vehicle systems design
- Knowledge of RADAR, RF materials, RF material measurements
- Cultivation, pursuit, capture, project or program management, and execution of signature technology IRAD & CRAD projects
- Programming with C/C++, Java, Fortran, Matlab, Python
- CAD software literacy for model cleanup and meshing

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
