Job Responsibilities
Description:The Instrumentation Mechanic will spearhead the layout, fabrication, and assembly of custom instrumentation components for flight‑test aircraft and development projects where established procedures do not exist. Working from verbal instructions and rough engineering sketches, you will translate concepts into reliable hardware, performing any necessary fabrication operations to produce precision components. Your responsibilities include conducting functional checks and calibrations of direct‑reading aircraft instruments and electro‑mechanical sensors, installing and maintaining these devices on aircraft undergoing flight‑test evaluation, and determining optimal mounting locations to meet evolving engineering requirements. You will route and terminate fluid lines, harnesses, and electrical cables from sensors to visual indicators or data‑handling system inputs, verifying proper connections and signal integrity. The role demands the development, modification, rework, and upkeep of both instrumentation and test equipment throughout the research and testing lifecycle. Flexibility to work any shift is essential to support 24/7 flight‑test operations.
Basic Qualifications:
Must possess at least one of the following skills:
• Electrical: Proven experience assembling and installing electrical harnesses at both sub assembly and aircraft levels, including routing, connector termination, and verification.
• CNC Machining & Programming: Skilled in CNC machine operation and capable of independently analyzing part geometry and creating CNC programs using GibbsCAM (or equivalent CAD/CAM) software.
• Sheet Metal Fabrication: Hands on proficiency in raw sheet metal fabrication and bending, employing standard machine shop measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) to produce precise components.
• Strain Gauge: Ability to assemble and perform hand soldering of wire terminals and circuit card assemblies. Previous experience in PCB assembly/repair, control panel design/layout and fabrication, micro-soldering.
• Aircraft overhaul experience: Proven experience working on aircraft, including flight operations, depot or commercial airframes. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical and mechanical.
Desired Skills:
• Willing to travel is preferred.
• A&P license.
• Ability to obtain or hold a current DOD Secret Clearance
• 5+ years of fighter aircraft experience or equivalent hands on experience.
• Advanced understanding of complex blueprint reading and interpretation.
• Advanced understanding of general hand tools required to create precision & complex parts where you will be required to be creative.
• Manual Lathe Experience.
• Paint shop Experience.
• Flight Test Instrumentation or Flight Test experience.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: Standard Monday to Friday 40 hour work week
