Lockheed Martin Space’s Remote Sensing Group is seeking a new leader for Electro-Optical Payload System development with a focus on the integrated Payload System. Your primary responsibilities will include program technical support for hardware integration, optical alignment, and integrated testing. We will also look for you to assist with all aspects of the development and integration activities of our Electro-Optical Payload Systems, including its flight and ground software. As a Certified Principal Engineer, you will provide program technical support for hardware design, hardware and software interface compatibility, verification event development, test program coordination and hardware delivery. You may be asked to support the development of Payload system level impacts for proposals, risks and opportunities, concept of operations development, Payload system level requirements generation and flow down across multiple components.

You will support a Payload Subcontract Management Team on-site at a Payload subcontractor and will be exposed to multiple areas of expertise to provide discriminative capabilities in Electro-Optical sensing. You will need to be able to work in a classified environment. A current TSI/SCI clearance is required for this role.

We are seeking someone who has an accredited degree in a related discipline, such as Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electro-Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or science degree in related optical disciplines of Physics or Chemistry. Our new colleague is someone who demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as a willingness to travel for the role.

You would typically have a Bachelors and 14 - 20 years of professional experience, a Masters and 12 - 18 years, or a PhD and 9 - 15 years.

Basic Qualifications:
• Background in development of space flight Electro-Optical payloads or major subsystems
• Engineering Team Lead, or Lead Certified Principal Engineer experience on a development program
• Experience developing material for and presenting at program reviews (e.g. Systems Readiness Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, etc.)
• Experience in all phases of the development cycle
• Knowledge of optical payload suppliers and products
• Experience with technical and programmatic interaction with subcontractors
• Active Clearance TS/SCI
Desired Skills:
• Experience working with specialty engineering – Parts Materials & Process approvals, reliability analysis, contamination modeling, material applications, parts engineering, etc.
• Experience in verification and test planning, management, and execution of assembly, integration & test phase elements
• Experienced in architecture definition, system design, debug and test of aerospace Electro-Optical Payloads.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. Technical leadership of both internally provided and sub-contracted hardware teams
• Understanding of the Specifications and derived requirements flow down, Payload System architectures, concepts of operations, and interface requirements
• Oversee the requirements development, flow down and verification events including support for overall test program and data trending program development
• Work with the Integrated Product Team, Certified Principal Engineers, Subcontract Managers and Program Management to coordinate Payload System level impacts
• Manage technical content of design reviews at the Payload and component levels and ensure successful closure of all action items and design artifacts
• Support resolution of test failures, hardware anomalies, and provide support to system engineering during critical program milestones
• Experience with optical system design, manufacture, assembly, alignment and test.
• Experience with optical system engineering processes and tools used to develop and verify performance budgets, examples of which are optical design tools (Zemax, CodeV), optical measurement tools (radiometric, wavefront (interferometric, PSF, profilometric), spectrophotometric, spatial measurement (laser trackers, theodolites, RMM)) and tooling.
