Become a valued member of the Flight Sciences Group supporting the FBM D5LE2 Loads & Dynamics effort as a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Loads and Dynamics – Mechanical Environments .



What does this role look like?



As a Loads & Dynamics Engineer supporting FBM D5LE2 , you will play a critical role in ensuring spacecraft and flight hardware can withstand the extreme environments of launch and spaceflight.

In this role, you will:
• Perform structural dynamics analysis for spacecraft flight hardware operating in demanding launch and space environments
• Develop and maintain analytical models using in-house and commercial software (such as Abaqus, NX/Nastran, ADAMS, Wave6) to simulate vibration, shock, and mechanical loading conditions
• Produce and maintain models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes, that simulate mechanical loading conditions, mechanism deployment motions, and the response behavior of missile segment and spacecraft separation events.
• Conduct loads development at the component, subsystem, and system level
• Evaluate dynamic environments including shock, vibration, and mechanism motion
• Analyze test data and document results in clear technical reports and presentations
• Define and integrate structural and dynamic requirements into the system baseline
• Present technical findings at design reviews, technical interchange meetings, engineering review boards, and test readiness reviews
• Have the ability to work on a multi-disciplined team performing structural design trades, preliminary and detailed design/analysis activity and performance and maintenance assessments of operational systems.
• Perform loads development (primary structure and component level), shock and vibration environments determination and component and system level testing and data evaluation.
• Prepare test plans; static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal and shock test execution, and post-test reports. You will be an important part of our product development team, where effective communication is critical.
• Support dynamic test definitions, requirements development, test monitoring, data reduction, and comparison to analysis efforts.

Basic Qualifications:
To be successful, you will need to possess these basic qualifications:


• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field

• Professional work experience performing structural dynamics analyses and loads/environments development for spacecraft, aircraft, or missiles

• 2+ years of experience within structures AND structural dynamics

• Experience in finite element modeling and analysis using NX/NASTRAN, LS-Dyna, Wave6, or equivalent

• Experience in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation

• Knowledge or experience implementing aircraft, missile OR spacecraft structural dynamic methods

• Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret Clearance; ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
Desired Skills:
To be successful, ideally, you should also have:


• A Master's degree is strongly preferred for this position

• Expertise in vibroacoustic and shock analyses on spacecraft/launch vehicles using Wave6

• Experience in the planning and execution of static, vibration, acoustic, modal, and shock testing for aerospace flight hardware

• Proficiency with structural dynamics rigid body and flexible body analyses of composite structures, metallic structures, and mechanisms

• Proficiency in Finite Element Modeling, modal analysis, Coupled Loads Analysis (CLA), and model correlation/verification

• Experience leading structural dynamics analyses while collaborating effectively with adjacent disciplines in a highly integrated team environment

• Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal, self-motivated, and able and willing to support multiple projects

• Top Secret DOD Clearance

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $98,300 - $170,315. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
