Description:We are looking for a communications expert to join a focused team of project managers, wargame designers, modeling & simulations and engineering visualization engineers, and IT/AV specialists at the Center for Innovation (CFI) in Suffolk, Va. This position will develop strategies and tactics to tell impactful stories about the Center for Innovation and the work it does with Business Areas and their customers.
You are a motivated self-starter that can quickly build trust within small teams. You will develop messaging and drive stories for key audiences highlighting CFI’s thought leadership in innovation and subject matter expertise in wargames, analysis, experimentation, integrated demonstrations, and modeling & simulation capabilities.
You will be responsible for design and implementation of the communications plans supporting CFI’s work. You will serve as the communications lead for CFI within Lockheed Martin as well as point of contact for government partners on communications matters. You will keep an editorial calendar to ensure timely reporting of events and innovations taking place. The individual will implement and maintain the CFI communications plan and serve as a principal communications point of contact and liaison with the Lockheed Martin Business Areas, Corporate Engineering, Technology & Operations (CETO), and government partners on communications matters. This position will report to the director of Corporate Communications; and directly support the CFI Director.

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure communication of the CFI’s work and participate in planning with CFI leadership on effective thought leadership and Lockheed Martin outreach. This includes Branding implementation plans and execution.
• Provide expert counsel to leaders to build communication skills.
• Support others to focus communication around the needs and preferences of their audience while helping to anticipate likely reactions to messaging.
• Work to find and develop content for use with multiple audiences including media, customers, employees and the public.
• Serve as media spokesperson and media relations lead for CFI in coordination with Lockheed Martin business areas and customers.
• Select outcome-focused metrics and tracks progress throughout communication campaigns.
• Support communications programs that support our technology strategy including autonomy, multi-domain operations and digital transformation
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10 years or more of professional experience or 8 years with a related Masters. Considered an expert in field within the organization. Experience in media relations with trade, technology and national outlets.
• Excellent writing and communications skills.
• Strong customer relations experience and an ability to interface with government, industry and Lockheed Martin leadership.
• Ability to obtain a Secret level clearance

Uses in-depth knowledge of key audience values to achieve communication goals beyond mere understanding or agreement, such as engagement and active support.
• The individual has worked in or with aerospace and defense and/or technology companies.
• In-depth knowledge of emerging technologies, their impact on industries, especially those affecting the military domains.
• Knowledge of wargaming, operations analysis and experimentation.
• Experience in visual storytelling techniques and marketing communications channels including social media, advertising and brand journalism.
