A Materials Coordinator is a crucial role within various industries, particularly in manufacturing, construction, and supply chain management. This position entails the oversight and management of materials required for production or project execution. The primary objective of a Materials Coordinator is to ensure that all necessary materials are available in the right quantities and at the right times to avoid any disruptions in the workflow. This involves maintaining meticulous records, monitoring inventory levels, and coordinating with suppliers and internal departments to facilitate seamless operations.
Moreover, a Materials Coordinator plays a pivotal role in optimizing the efficiency of material utilization while mitigating costs and minimizing waste. This necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the production processes, inventory management systems, and procurement procedures. Effective communication and organizational skills are paramount, as the role often involves liaising with various stakeholders, from procurement teams to project managers. In essence, a Materials Coordinator ensures the smooth and efficient flow of materials, which is fundamental to the success and productivity of any business relying on timely production or project completion.
Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of routine logistic material handling duties to expedite parts and materials in support of manufacturing operations and in storage and kit areas.
Stock, store, gather and deliver items through the plant, to inspection, shuttle, storage and kitting area as required.
Maintain required supply of parts and materials.
Work from shortage lists, work orders, operation sheets, material requisitions, drawings, etc.
Prepare shortage reports and follow up on all required items in order to assist in maintaining a smooth flow of parts and materials.
Help to obtain information concerning promise dates, material requirements, etc.
Aid in assuring supplies and related paperwork such as work orders, operation sheets, materials, tools and provided to users.
Check in-coming and outgoing items against accompanying paperwork for proper identification and quantity.
Assist in taking inventory and correcting inconsistencies reported, follow up on shortages.
Resolve kit shortages and count items to check inventory as required
Use electric or hand operated pump trucks or PIVs to unload, move and deliver parts, kits, materials and equipment to designated areas.
Retrieve parts and return carts to from Receiving as required.
Assure parts are delivered to appropriate areas, test labs and workstations in a timely manner to maintain steady workflow.
Follow prescribed procedures in the use of data terminal to extract production requirements and information; log in required data and extract required shop control information.
Follow good housekeeping practices to maintain cleanliness of assigned area.
Perform other duties, usually of a related or similar nature as directed.
Perform operator checklist as required.
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator required upkeep.
Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.
Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
Refer unusual conditions to Working Leader or supervisor.
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires elementary knowledge of business and shop practices, sufficient to understand the routing and processing of parts, and/or materials. Have knowledge of material planning, scheduling, automated shortage system and paperwork related to shop control activities. Be able to read ordinary drawings. Requires familiarity with department breakdowns. Equivalent to short, specialized training.
- 6 to 12 months experience
Desired Skills:
- Physical Skills - Time divided between paperwork activities and handling or carrying of parts and/or materials varying in weight, mostly light. Overall physical effort generally light.
- Mental & Visual Demand- Continuous application of mental and visual attention required to carry out expediting duties, process information and paperwork, and perform follow-up duties.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: Standard Monday to Friday 40 hour work week
