This position is for an entry level Design Associate Engineer in the Sikorsky Aircraft Design Group. We design, develop and support elegant and safe aircraft solutions that exceed customer expectations for mission success.

We are seeking a talented and motivated entry level Design Engineer to join the Transmission Systems Production and Field Support team. The ideal candidate will work in all aspects of transmission drive system design, from conceptual trade studies thru fabrication, test, and customer use.

This position routinely interfaces with other functional areas such as propulsion, blades, flight controls, airframe, avionics and electrical. Design major components, or major portions of Drive system. Develop and or improve products, pursue cost savings, and facilitate manufacturing operations. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, Regulatory requirements (FAA) and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development, in particular aftermarket support in-service and at overhaul. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to program team. Field support issues resolution. Evaluates potential safety alerts and prepares coordinated engineering response with corrective action plan. Will have responsibility to direct work of other team members via the IPT process, and be responsible for task management duties.

Design of Helicopter Power Transmission System, including but not limited to rotor hub assemblies and pitch controls, gearbox housings, gears, bearings, drive shafts, couplings, clutches and rotor brakes. Projects experience in new product development, and manufacturing and field technical support for current and mature production aircraft.

The job may include travel for on-site support and close physical access to prototype and development aircraft for build, ground test, and flight test operations stateside.

This position is based in our Stratford/ Shelton, Connecticut facility, with close ties to other transmission system designers across multiple geographic locations. Similar positions are available in our Fort Worth Technical Center and candidates are encouraged to apply to the location of choice.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent)
Desired Skills:
• Experience with CAD 3D modeling, drafting, and GD&T practices.
• Good verbal communication and technical writing skills.
• Ability to interpret requirements, bills of material, and engineering drawings.
• Experience in vehicle design and maintenance, especially aircraft.
• Experience with CATIA V5, CATIA V6, ANSYS, ROMAX, COBRA, JONES.
• Experience or Internship preferred
• Basic understanding of structural analysis
