The Commercial Fleet Analytics group is looking for a Senior Data Scientist with subject matter expertise to translate field data into actionable intelligence with the goal to maintain the Sikorsky aircraft as the most reliable in the world.

Group Description:

LM Rotary & Mission Systems' (RMS) APA Innovations - Analytics, PHM & AI - team applies Sikorsky-developed technology, processes and expertise to aircraft data in order to drive proactive decision-making throughout the business. Data generated from on-board health usage and monitoring system (HUMS), aircraft operations, and aircraft maintenance is collected, conditioned and analyzed to identify opportunities for improvements to an aircraft’s design and supportability. The ultimate goal of APA Innovations is to increase the availability of supported aircraft, reduce operational costs and to enable a strategic business shift to condition-based maintenance. APA Innovations’ rapidly evolving Commercial Analytics team supports the Commercial Aftermarket through accurate and actionable information, proactive identification of problems, and development of innovative solutions.

Specific Responsibilities:

The Data Scientist designs and develops methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured, diverse sources including big data sources. Develops and uses advanced software programs, algorithms, querying and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate datasets and models complex business problems. Is familiar with disciplines such as Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Predictive modeling, Statistical Analysis and Hypothesis testing. Works with cross-discipline teams in order to leverage subject-matter expertise in various aspects of helicopter design and operation. Identifies meaningful insights and interprets and communicates findings and recommendations. Develops information tools, algorithms, dashboards, and queries to monitor and improve business performance. Maintains awareness of emerging analytics and big-data technologies. Requires knowledge of various technical domains including systems coding, various software programming languages, and deep mathematical calculation and algorithms to provide intricate analytic solutions to meet end user needs. Has various tool knowledge with both software development and engineering research to create models of relevancy.

Responsible for the delivery, quality, communications, and accuracy associated with all outputs. Identify top readiness/cost drivers and reliability issues facing the helicopter fleet, and support corrective action tracking and implementation. Support development of new tools, methods and processes to identify, quantify and predict cost and reliability issues facing helicopter fleet Interface with other APA Innovations Analytics team members to share best practices and discuss creative ways for solving shared challenges. Communicate analytical findings to management and customer on a regular basis. Lead small teams in execution of projects.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience in reliability engineering, aircraft maintenance and operations analysis, analytics, computer science or related field.
- Experienced with the application of statistics and data-mining in business environment (trend discovery and analysis, text mining, correlation and pattern discovery, etc.)
- Familiar with SQL, and able to create/perform basic queries.
- Skilled in Python, MATLAB, Excel or other data analytics toolsets.
- Strong interpersonal communications skills (verbal, presentation and written). Strong problem solving skills, inquisitive mindset.
- Focused on results and able to work closely with others in collaborative environment.
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with aircraft maintenance, support and/or design.
- Proficient in Python or R
- 5+ years working with Analytics tools and methods
- Proficient with JMP or other data discovery / statistical analysis tools
- Proficient with MS and Oracle SQL
- Technical leadership of small- to medium-size teams
