Embedded S/W Engineer - Applied Artificial Intelligence

Description:The Artificial Intelligence (AI) team at LM RMS is focused on the research & development of technologies that will enable the next generation of unmanned and fully autonomous systems for both defense and commercial customers.
Our focus is on accelerating the understanding and maturity of AI algorithms through rapid prototyping and flight testing. We practice throwaway and evolutionary prototyping which provides a mechanism for learning how to build increasingly complex – and capable – unmanned systems.

This ideal engineer for this role has a strong background in high-performance and/or real-time computing on embedded or mobile devices. Experience with Embedded GPUs, FPGAs, and DSPs is desired, but not mandatory. A history of implementing AI, DSP, or communications algorithms is considered a basic qualification for this position.

The ideal candidate for this position is a hands-on, passionate person who enjoys fast moving development cycles spanning from research to flight test in the order of months. The position will require travel for field/flight testing and conferences.

The team’s preference would be to hire a candidate to work on-site in Shelton, CT, but virtual work from other locations may be considered under certain circumstances
Basic Qualifications:
* Extensive programming experience with modern C/C++. Please be prepared to write code at the interview!

* Strong grasp of Linux fundamentals and experience with at least one RTOS such as VxWorks or RedHawk

* Working knowledge of interfaces such as SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, etc.

* Demonstrated history of building embedded systems. Please be prepared to describe previous projects in detail (professional and/or personal side projects are both valuable and relevant)!

* Comfort with digital and analog electronics is assumed for this position. Particularly memory ICs, amplifiers, ADC/DACs, digital filters, etc.
Desired Skills:
* Detailed knowledge of modern ARM architectures (e.g. ARMv8)

* Background with one of the following: FPGAs, GPUs, and DSPs

* Knowledge of common AI/robotics algorithms is desired, but not required – a background in robotics hardware at any level is highly desired!

* Understanding of sensors (e.g. LIDAR, SAR, EO/IR, etc.) and a background in sensor filtering/fusion
