Mechanical Launch Operations Engineer

Description:The Ground & Flight Engineering Solutions (GFES) Program supports satellite launch processing, satellite assembly, integration & test (AI&T), other launch processing support functions and electronics manufacturing. Our primary operating location is on the California Central Coast, near Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Maria, CA. Key elements of the GFES activities include systems & test engineering, ground support equipment operations & maintenance (O&M), electronics equipment & cable assembly and launch processing facilities O&M. Other groups in our organization support Cyber Security & Asset Management.

The GFES team has a need for a TS/SCI cleared project engineer with experience in mechanical aspects of flight hardware (satellite) processing operations and systems testing. This is key position supporting internal customers at remote sites, and occasionally, at satellite factory locations (Denver and Sunnyvale). The candidate selected will be part of a team performing critical processing operations with high value flight hardware, to include lifting & handling of flight elements, assembly and integration of sub-assemblies into flight payloads, flight processing, closeout operations, post launch activities as well as tracking and follow up closure of lessons learned remedies.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience developing test procedures (writing tests procedures or similar detailed work instructions) and leading test operations for mechanical satellite vehicle handling ground equipment operation and maintenance tasks.
- Experience leading troubleshooting, rework, repair, retest and operation of mechanical ground support equipment such as lifting/handling equipment, crane operations, and mechanical equipment used in flight hardware assembly & processing. (Flight hardware processing expertise can include experience with one or more of the following type of vehicles: spacecraft, rocket, UAV, rotorcraft, or other high value, critical systems.)
• Must be willing to travel, work overtime, support odd shifts and weekends.
• A TS/SCI Clearance is required to start.
Desired Skills:
• Lockheed Martin Space Certified Test Conductor (CTC) is a plus.
• Strong communications skills (written, verbal and presentation skills).
• Launch Operations, project management or project engineering experience.
• Technical report preparation and presentation experience.
• Experience with and the proven ability to work in teams, climb stairs, work in factory and launch site environments.
