Description:The Ground & Flight Engineering Solutions (GFES) Program supports electronics manufacturing, satellite assembly, integration & test (AI&T), satellite launch processing and other launch support functions. The primary operating location is in Santa Maria, CA. Travel may be required. Key elements of the GFES activities include ground support equipment operations & maintenance (O&M), electronics equipment & cable assembly and launch ground systems & launch facilities O&M.

The GFES Program is seeking an Electronics Systems Technician who will join the team executing electronics systems assembly & test and O&M of ground systems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Assemble and set up equipment following engineering instructions and production illustrations such as manufacturer’s specifications, service manuals and bulletins, or other engineering-approved technical data or oral instructions.

• Perform functional checks, and assist in installing electronic assemblies and circuits such as signal, control, coax, fiber optic cables, and communications circuits for electronic systems, fixtures and accessories. Much of these duties may be performed under the direction of another technician.

• Following engineer’s or technician’s instructions, lay out, fabricate, construct, install and assemble cables, chassis, racks, panels and equipment enclosures for electronic devices. Replace or repair equipment power cords and connect/disconnect A/C modules.

• Assist operational checkout, functional tests, troubleshooting and repairs to major assembly or circuit board level of electronic systems, electro-mechanical equipment, computer-controlled environmental and security systems, video systems, non-facility Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) systems (including battery maintenance), transducers, telecommunication systems and microwave and radio systems.

• Monitor control systems and assist in support of launch facility operations. Operate meters for bonding checks of mechanical components and panel installation. Operate support equipment necessary for satellite AI&T and satellite launch operations.

• Performs mechanical operations necessary for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, dismantling and disassembly directly related to the above systems. May be required to perform routine maintenance and upkeep for the prevention of corrosion.

• Work with or assist engineers & technicians in other fields of specialization by performing hands-on operations of the level of difficulty described herein.

Travel may be required.

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Basic Qualifications:
• Must have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on electronics experience

• Good working knowledge of electronics and electronics repair equipment and tools (for example: soldering equipment, crimpers, strippers, oscilloscope, megger, multimeter)

• Ability to use shop mathematics

• Must have ability to work at heights on platforms, ladders, gantries, towers & poles and be able to work in confined spaces

• Ability to use tools and equipment necessary to perform work described herein

• Must be willing to travel up to 80% +/- (mainly to Sunnyvale, CA)

• Must be a United States citizen

• Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
Desired Skills:
• Desire two years of formal technical training beyond high school (e.g. an Associate degree in a technical field such as electronics or avionics), military technical school, or Avionics or Airframe & Powerplant license.

• Good communication skills (verbal and written)

• Experience following engineering drawings to fabricate electronic ground sub- systems related to satellite test (cables, chassis, consoles)

• Experience with telecommunications, fiber optics, RF & antennas and data processing equipment.
