Environmental and Safety Engineer Senior

Description:Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, safety & health (ESH) regulations and/or company policies, and provides ESH support and directions on new and maturing company contracts and programs.

Manages the Palmdale chemical management database to maintain accurate chemical usage records and inventory, including safety data sheets.

Prepares permits, regulatory reports (e.g. Hazardous Material Business Plans, Toxic Release Inventory), policies and procedures as necessary to meet compliance requirements.

Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment and new aerospace manufacturing programs to meet ESH requirements.

Represents the organization in providing solutions to technical ESH issues.

Interacts with senior leadership and regulatory agencies. Conducts injury, close call and hazardous material spill investigations using root cause analysis tools to develop preventive and corrective actions.

Manages several ESH compliance programs. Participates in community and employee engagement activities.

Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable.

Leads projects and improvements. Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.

Occasional travel and off-shift/weekend emergency coverage/response required.

MUST BE A US CITIZEN - This position is located in a facility that requires special access.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline with 5 years of professional experience.

Experience with Environmental, Health & Safety Programs.
Desired Skills:
The candidate is considered an emerging authority in multiple environmental and safety compliance program disciplines and knowledgeable in California regulatory requirements.

Experienced in preparing Toxic Release Inventory Reports (TRI) and Hazardous Material Business Plans in a manufacturing and industrial environment.

Strong written and verbal skills. Self-starter, generally, works independently with minimal guidance.

Has experience resolving problems, leading projects and teams.

Experience working in a Union environment, and with Department of Defense customers, a plus.
