Job Responsibilities
Description:Lockheed Martin is seeking a Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Lead Composite’s Design Engineer to join our creative team of engineers. The candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in some of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control’s highly innovative and ingenious solutions to complex technical problems facing the aerospace industry. This specific position will develop Solid Rocket Motor Composites Design and associated pressure vessel hardware with expertise in propulsion, structural mechanics, and materials engineering to research, design, analyze, and test aerospace products and technologies.
What You Will Be Doing
• Lead mechanical design activities for composite structures including strategic booster motor composite cases and tactical rocket motor cases.
• Will independently develop design concepts, 3D models and support the development of detailed support documentation for the manufacture of parts
• Conduct trade studies and develop component specifications and procedures as required.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including analysts, manufacturing, project engineering, quality and customer support groups.
• Plan and execute design tasks with limited general direction and work effectively within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment. Review and task engineers and operators supporting build and test activities
• Write test plans, write procedures for fabrication efforts, oversee testing, analyze test data and make revisions to design based on results
• Travel to and participate in lab and production hardware processing at partner facilities. Assess and address nonconforming hardware, process planning, support production meetings, and work with supply chain to assure that design requirements are met.
• Identify and support of risk reduction and environmental test requirements. This may include manufacturing pathfinders, subscale testing, component and system level qualification tests
• Conduct research to stay updated on industry advancements and incorporate new technologies into designs.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's of Science in a STEM degree, preferred Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering and at least 8+ years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• 5+ years experience with CAD software tools (prefer CREO and/or NX)
• Proficient in simulation and analysis tools such as composite layup codes coupled with finite element analysis (FEA), FEA tools such as ANSYS Workbench, NASTRAN, and/or ABAQUS etc.
• Strong knowledge of structural mechanics and SRM foundation in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics.
• Deep understanding of solid rocket motor principles, considered a composite case manufacturing and design subject matter expert, with experience in processing and inspection techniques in the industry.
• Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze complex engineering challenges, propose solutions, and make informed design decisions.
• Insensitive Munitions Awareness: An understanding of insensitive munitions protocols and practices (MIL-STD-1565, MIL-STD 1625) in the design of rocket motors, given the potential hazards involved.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Security Clearance
• Must be willing to travel domestically up to 50%
Desired Skills:
• Master's of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering or a related degree.
• Active DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance
• Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacture
• Hands-on experience with prototypes in development
• Communication Skills: Effective communication skills are crucial for collaborating with cross-functional teams, presenting design concepts, and documenting work.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
