The Work
The Maintainability Engineer will focus on the F‑35 aviation simulator fleet and advanced avionics test equipment programs. You will analyze designs, perform reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM) studies, interpret Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analyses (FMECAs), and translate those findings into actionable maintenance requirements. The role ensures that simulator and test‑equipment designs achieve maximum operational availability while minimizing support costs, fully complying with military standards and modern model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) practices.
Who you are
Key Responsibilities
• Design & Specification Analysis
○ Review engineering designs of various F‑35 aviation simulators and trainers, and advanced test equipment.
○ Develop and refine maintenance specifications that improve the operational availability.
○ Conduct continuous maintainability assessments throughout the product lifecycle and advocate for supportability improvements.
○ Coordinate directly with various suppliers and vendors requesting maintenance data and integrating with internal analyses.
• Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM)
○ Lead RCM analyses to identify optimal maintenance tasks, intervals, and strategies.
○ Interpret FMECAs and other failure data, extracting criticality information and converting it into preventive or predictive maintenance actions.
○ Produce RCM work packages, task lists, and labor standards aligned with program logistics needs.
• Maintenance Task & Level‑of‑Repair Analysis (LORA)
○ Perform Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) to ensure tasks are properly planned, documented, and executed.
○ Decompose Bills of Material (BOM) for maintenance significant items, assign items to appropriate echelons of repair, and optimize maintenance plans using statistical and economic feasibility tools.
○ Support logistics support analysis (LSA) and product support packages for simulator and test‑equipment sustainment requirements.
• Standards Implementation & Compliance
○ Apply and enforce applicable military and industry standards, including:
§ MIL‑STD‑1388
§ MIL‑HDBK‑881 / 502
§ GEIA‑STD‑0007
§ TA‑STD‑0017
§ MIL‑HDBK‑217
○ Ensure all documentation, analysis reports, and maintenance concepts meet these standards.
• Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
○ Utilize MBSE tools and processes (e.g., SysML, Cameo Systems Modeler) to capture maintainability requirements, traceability, and design changes.
○ Maintain system models that integrate FMECAs, RCM results, and logistics data into a digital thread.
• Reporting & Documentation
○ Generate clear, data‑driven reports on maintainability, reliability, and supportability findings.
○ Communicate recommendations to design engineers, program managers, and senior leadership.
○ Maintain an up‑to‑date knowledge base of FMECAs, RCM outcomes, and maintenance task analyses.
○ Author Contract Deliverables associated with various Maintainability contractual obligations.
