Do you have a passion to get humans back to the moon and eventually to Mars? NASA has developed a vision for exploration that includes the development of an Integrated Human Lander System (IHLS) and a Gateway Habitat in the next 5 years. The nation received a White House mandate to place humans back on the surface of the Moon by 2024. Lockheed Martin Space is onboard to be part of this historic event and is looking to build a core team of highly-motivated engineers excited to be working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This is a rare opportunity for you to help NASA meet the challenges of the first step in achieving that “long-term presence at the Moon” and the stepping point for human missions to Mars.

As a Structures Pressure Vessel Lead, you will lead the design of IHLS working within Lockheed Martin and its Teammates with engineering design, qualification, assembly, integration and test of these components and systems. You shall have the ability to coordinate and approve your teammates sub-contract design packages. You may be required to support launch operations including functional testing of hardware and systems, troubleshooting these systems and making quick independent technical decisions. In addition you will:

• Lead the concept development, detailed, design, fabrication, and testing of the dome and appendage interfaces
• Be responsible for the development of solid models in conjunction with the performance of all necessary analyses for these designs, including materials evaluations, stress, dynamics, thermal, aerodynamic, and flight mechanics assessments
• Present customer reviews, engineering review boards, configuration control boards, and failure review boards
• Provide support to producibility studies, cost trades, design for long term operations and maintenance, and all necessary development planning activities
• Be responsible for mechanical design activities including requirements allocation, concept evaluations, trade studies, layouts, and preliminary solid modeling analyses
• Handle aspects of product acceptance reviews and certifications as Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) of assigned hardware.

Basic Qualifications:
• BS degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Physics, or related discipline or equivalent experience/combined education, with 12+ years of professional experience
• Experience with the design, stress and structures of spacecraft cabins, domes and center sections
• Experience leading an Integrated Product Team
• Knowledge of aerospace vehicle structures, mechanisms, thermal products, materials and processes
• Understanding of pressure vessel design fundamentals, welding principles, specifications
• Developed skills in Mechanical Design. Proficient with CAD modeling, drafting and release in Creo/EPDM (CREO3 or CREO4)
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 including GD&T
Desired Skills:
• Knowledge of CIPS related to system analyse
• Hardware experience, including design, analysis, assembly, Integration and Test
• Welding fabrication techniques
• Proficiency using EPDM Windchill, SAP and design tool
• Knowledgeable at a systems level in the areas of subcontracts, propulsion, mechanisms, and launch operations
• Experience working with procurement and outside suppliers, Cost Account Management (CAM), and scheduling/planning
