Lead Member of Engineering Staff - System Safety Engineering

An engineer working in the System Safety Engineering group will contribute to a wide variety of projects based on our business needs. The engineer will be required to lead one or more system safety programs and tasking associated with those programs. The engineer will work on tasking which will include requirements analysis, interface analysis, and operations analysis, as well as system safety test and verification. The engineer will be expected to contribute in growing the expertise and processes of the group, and mentoring and guiding other engineers with their tasking and understanding of System Safety. The engineer will work directly with customers and project leadership to report out on safety analyses, and will be responsible for preparing reports, reviewing subcontractor safety documentation and analysis, and leading various safety program tasks. The engineer should be capable of working in a team-oriented, fast paced environment, supporting multiple projects and proposals. Proven communication, team building and project management skills required.

In addition to these responsibilities, the engineer will be expected to lead a safety program(s) that involve laser weapon systems. The engineer will be expected to understand the nuances of laser theory, and the safety implications of operating lasers. The engineer will also be expected to have familiarity and ability to present and provide artifacts to a laser safety review board. In addition to project responsibilities, the engineer will also educate and informally train other member of the System Safety Engineering team on laser safety.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in engineering or science from an accredited university with experience in disciplines of Safety Engineering on large complex systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong technical leadership experience
- Training and/or certification in system safety engineering
- Experience in conducting a system safety program in accordance with MIL-STD-882E on weapon systems and/or large DoD projects
- Experience with software safety in accordance with JSSEH
- Experience in conducting safety analysis and adhering to regulations in the operation of Class 4/5 Lasers
- Excellent planning, organizational and baseline management skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level
Desired Skills:
- Operational experience with the U.S. Navy
- Experience as a Laser Safety Officer
- Experience with hardware design
- Experience with RF theory
- Experience with Site Safety and OSHA Standards
- Demonstrated project management experience and the ability to understand technical specifications and requirements to an understanding with respect to computer program changes.
