The Work
The Advanced Materials and Concepts Prototyper will assist design and process engineers by performing duties requiring practical and technical knowledge to facilitate fabrication, repair, modification and inspection/testing of composite, metal, and advance materials structures.

Job Responsibilities will include:

- Fabricates prototype and conceptual components and assembles with a minimum of supervision.
- Receives instruction through oral instructions, rough sketches, process documents, or memos: determines equipment, material and fixture needs; sets-up, operates, adjusts and calibrates process and assembly equipment as required.
- Performs experiments under engineers’ direction. Uses hand and machine tools as necessary.
- Makes appropriate calculations relating to assignments, records data and maintains records using computerized equipment where necessary.
- Modifies fixtures and lab equipment as directed. Evaluates or makes suggestions or recommendations for improvements in materials, processes, fixtures and techniques as necessary.
- Writes process instructions and summary reports on experimental work when requested.
- Corrects discrepancies using information from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, or other documents as required.
- Prepares and uses manufacturing planning, written instructions, schematics, drawings and other applicable technical data to repair, fabricate and modify composite structures.
- May direct the activities of other laboratory personnel in the performance of their duties.
- May train or instruct other technical personnel in operations that fall within their area of expertise and experience; become familiar with and reasonably proficient in all operations within the scope of the composite/advance materials development activity; must be able to transition smoothly between assignments on short notice.
- Provide hands-on development of conceptual models and prototype components for use in the development of new business and/or design verification of high level systems.
- Able to work with epoxies or other chemical solvents or chemicals used in hybrid processes. Able to wear a respirator for extended periods of time (will be trained and certified as needed) and willing to travel periodically.

Basic Qualifications:
- Experience with machining composites.
- Knowledge/experience with basic hand tools and their uses. Ability to operate larger machinery.
- Experience with hand fabrication of composites.
- Experience with reading engineering drawings.
- Able to work with epoxies or other chemical solvents or chemicals used in hybrid processes. Able to wear a respirator for extended periods of time (will be trained and certified as needed) and willing to travel periodically.
- Ability to obtain & maintain a Secret security clearance, requires US citizenship.
Desired Skills:
- Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction.
- Familiarity with materials and advanced additive and subtractive manufacturing methods.
- Ability to work flexible hours and/or overtime as needed to achieve mission goals.
- Comfortable with multi-tasking and running parallel tasks to support multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong organizational skills.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
