Composite/Advanced Materials Fabrication and Development Technician

WHAT WE'RE DOING
At Lockheed Martin, we are pushing the boundaries of innovation in advanced materials and manufacturing. Our Accelerated Materials & Product Development (AMPD) team is driving the development of next-generation composite and advanced materials structures, enabling cutting-edge systems for aerospace and defense applications.

THE WORK
As a Composite/Advanced Materials Fabrication and Development Technician, you will assist design and process engineers by applying practical and technical knowledge to facilitate the fabrication, repair, modification, and inspection/testing of composite and advanced materials structures. Key responsibilities include:

- **Prototype Fabrication** – Fabricate prototype and conceptual components and assemble them with minimal supervision.
- **Process Execution** – Follow oral instructions, sketches, process documents, or memos to determine equipment, material, and fixture needs. Set up, operate, adjust, and calibrate process and assembly equipment as required.
- **Experimental Support** – Perform experiments under engineers’ direction, utilizing hand and machine tools as necessary.
- **Data Management** – Make calculations, record data, and maintain records using computerized equipment.
- **Process Improvement** – Modify fixtures and lab equipment as directed. Evaluate and suggest improvements in materials, processes, fixtures, and techniques.
- **Documentation** – Write process instructions and summary reports on experimental work when requested.
- **Discrepancy Resolution** – Correct discrepancies using information from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, or other documents.
- **Manufacturing Planning** – Prepare and use manufacturing planning, written instructions, schematics, drawings, and other technical data to repair, fabricate, and modify composite structures.

Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to read blueprints/manuals, proficiency with tools, and basic computer knowledge (MS Office).

- Must be able to read and interpret detailed assembly blueprints, loft data, and sketches to ensure accurate weld placement.

- Strong communication, problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

- Ability to collaborate with different engineering groups and business functions.

- Apply material specific welding techniques that minimize warping, distortion, and residual stress.

- Operate single and multi head profile cutting torch machines and perform precision metal cutting operations

- Verify shop orders, record material disbursement, and use precision measuring instruments and shop mathematics to confirm dimensional compliance.

- Will be capable of welding multiple material groups (steel, aluminum, titanium, corrosion resistant steel, and nickel based alloys) over a wide range of thicknesses.

- Will be able to interpret industry standard weld symbols and shall have a basic knowledge of weld size measurement, visual inspection, and weld defect types.

- Will have a basic knowledge of weld jigs and assembly tooling, be able to prepare basic joint designs, and perform any other necessary steps prior to welding.

- Will be capable of making acceptable welds in all common welding positions including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
Desired Skills:
- Proficient in performing tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fit and assembly of complex components.

- Expertise in applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards to communicate design intent and ensure part functionality.

- Willingness to travel OCONUS and CONUS to support critical events and projects.

- comfortable representing Lockheed Martin as subject matter expert (SME) offsite when customer is present

- comfortable working in environments exposed to the elements - rain, snow, wind, temp extremes as necessary to support warfighter.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
