Description:Occupational Summary
This occupation requires the making of inspection layouts of all types of unmachined sample castings and forgings for pattern and die approval. Investigates and makes three dimensional layouts during initial production machining cycle of fully or partially machined new complex parts, or parts having significant configuration changes, to determine part conformance to established criteria, and when machining error is detected determine whether or not affected machined surfaces can be relocated and part completed or that machining can continue without tooling, tape or program change. Assists in determining cause of machining errors and establishing responsibility for corrective action. Inspects all types of complex parts, partially or fully machined, produced on standard or numerically controlled machines or received from vendors, for workmanship, dimensional accuracy, interchangeability, and compliance with applicable blueprints and specifications. Approves or rejects parts as a result of such inspections.
This occupation requires the inspection of fabricated aircraft parts; processing operations on parts, assemblies, and materials; and metal bond parts and completed metal bond assemblies for conformance to blueprints, specifications, or engineering data.
This occupation requires the inspection of experimental airplanes or the parts or assemblies thereof for conformance to blueprints, sketches, detail assembly templates, loft drawings, and inspection standards and specifications, and making disposition on parts, assemblies or installations by recommending the corrective action necessary to meet accepted inspection and engineering standards.

Ability to stand for periods of time, walk, carry equipment, perform quality inspections.
Basic Qualifications:
A candidate is required to take and satisfactorily complete an entrance Proficiency Demonstration (PD). To qualify for the PD, an employee must have the following minimum levels of experience.

A total of four years machine shop experience using one or more of the following major machine tools:

· Milling machines

· Boring mills

· Hydrotels

· Lathes

Must also have the ability to read detail part, assembly and installation blueprints, shop math, problem solving, precision measurements, reading and comprehension as demonstrated by passing the Inspector Job Skills assessment.

The required level of machine shop experience must include set-up, layout and operation of conventional machines (not having NC or CNC controls) and the use of precision measuring instruments. Where both conventional and NC/CNC controls exist in a department, documented evidence of at least 4000 hours assigned to conventional controlled machines is required.

Machine Tool Set-up experience that involves conventional machine tools (not NC or CNC controlled) may also be used to reach the four year requirement.

Qualified individuals must also be able to pass LMCO's Inspection Eye Examination.

Sets up and operates computerized coordinate measuring machines (CCMMs) to perform inspections of unmachined castings and forgings for pattern and die approval and to perform inspections of partially or completely machined parts of a level of difficulty described herein.
