You will be the Functional Test Engineer for the Vehicle Systems Electronics, Integration & Labs team which is responsible for delivering cutting‑edge functional test solutions for legacy and next‑generation combat aircraft.



What You Will Be Doing


As the Functional Test Engineer you will be responsible for designing, testing, and managing functional test solutions—including custom harnesses, fixtures, and flying hardware—across multiple sustainment and production contracts.


Your responsibilities will include:



  • Design and develop functional test solutions, including custom harnesses, fixtures, and flying hardware for C‑130, C‑5, F‑22, F‑35, and F‑16 platforms.

  • Evaluate airframe, avionics, and mission‑system specifications to create test strategies and define clear pass/fail criteria.

  • Manage test‑infrastructure data in SAP/ERP to control Bills of Materials and ensure full traceability.

  • Identify, qualify, and coordinate with aerospace‑grade suppliers to support sustainment and production schedules.

  • Conduct failure analysis, partner with design engineers, and support cross‑functional teams in test methodology and quality best practices.

Who You Are


You are an experienced engineer with a strong background in aircraft maintenance and systems integration. You bring fluency in SAP/ERP environments, a proven ability to engineer custom test hardware, and a data‑driven mindset rooted in Lean, Six Sigma, or 5S/6S principles. Collaborative, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working across engineering, production, and sustainment teams, you thrive on solving complex problems and delivering reliable test solutions that keep our aircraft flying.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN – This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain an active Secret clearance to start.


This position is in Marietta, GA  Discover Marietta.
Basic Qualifications:
• Knowledge of design of test interfaces, custom cabling, hardware, fixtures for test environments using computer aided drafting software.
• Familiar with quality management practices, data release workflows, part definition, and shop floor digitization of test procedures and work instructions.
• Knowledge of build to print processes, including assembly execution and validation.
• Experience with workflow mapping, time study, Lean/Six Sigma, and continuous improvement projects.
Desired Skills:
• B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent professional experience, military technical training on aircraft, and/or relevant education.
• Greater than 5 years functional test experience on aircraft platforms.
• Design test interfaces, custom cabling, mechanical fixtures, and supporting test equipment for aircraft and laboratory environments using CAD tools (i.e. CATIA, Visio).
• Trained or certified as a Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or equivalent continuous improvement qualification.
• Strong working knowledge of SAP (or comparable ERP) for BOM and requirements analysis, and change management.
• Practical understanding of the Quality Management Systems (i.e.. Apriso, QADS) including development and execution of standard operating procedures and work instructions (i.e.. Shop Floor Manager, Maximo).
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
