Hardware Engineer

Description:Opportunity for a Hardware Engineer experienced in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines interested in putting their skills to work as a Senior Hardware Engineer on our dynamic Manassas, Virginia team.

This position spans the technology development life-cycle. Candidate will lead a small group of engineers through requirements review, architecture design and documentation, hardware procurement, integration, and test of COTS/custom computing hardware in a military environment.

Key responsibilities include close involvement with cross-functional teams; design and development of hardware solutions; troubleshooting design issues; test planning/development/execution; and subcontractor oversight.

The Senior Hardware Engineer will apply best practices throughout the product life-cycle to ensure that the hardware solution aligns with dynamic customer requirements. Baseline control and change management are critical.

Provide oversight of technical, cost, and schedule performance for hardware development efforts within a program. Expected to communicate project status and technical issues. Frequent interaction with Program Management, Chief Engineering Organization, and the Customer.

General responsibilities may include:
• Working with computing systems (Processing, Network, Storage, Display technologies)
• Adherence to military hardware design processes and specifications
• Manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks

Specific responsibilities include:
• Specification and selection of COTS, ROTS, NDI (Non-Developmental Item) and/or custom components
• Oversee creation of Interconnect Diagrams
• Cable Design for rack/stack system
• Test Procedure development and execution (Factory Acceptance Tests)
• Oversee System Verification and Validation
• Interpret mechanical drawings
• End-of-life assessments and evaluations
• Participating in Integrated Product Teams, review boards, and customer reviews
• Prepare and present electrical designs as part of customer Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design reviews
• Subcontractor oversight

Occasional travel is expected.
Basic Qualifications:
• Capable of developing an electrical engineering design from concept through implementation and test using COTS and custom components
• Author test procedures used by the Engineering team to test Hardware items
• Familiar with basic software tools including Windows and Linux and able to utilize test software written for hardware test
• Familiar with communications protocols such as USB, ethernet, serial and video
• Day-to-day ability to lead a small engineering team focused on a hardware product
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with the program office, other engineering teams and the customer
• Thorough understanding of COTS and Custom Power Electronics (PDU, UPS, filters, conditioning)
• Ability to obtain/maintain Secret level clearance
• Experience preparing engineering estimates for bidding proposals
• Experience managing projects and engineering teams
• Self-starter
• Leadership/Communication/Team Skills
Desired Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering from an accredited college preferred
• Project Management experience
• Experience with COTS or custom computer system design/networks
• Earned Value Management (reporting cost and schedule status)
• Contract experience (work with Contracts team)
• Experience with selection & integration of network servers, switches, memory, power supplies, etc.
• Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
• System design experience
• CAD design experience
• Defense Industry design experience
