Systems Engineer - Orbit Analyst

Description:Become an integral part of the Lockheed Martin Space (LMS) Military Space APD team as we develop solutions for spacecraft systems and missions to address our customer’s most critical problems!

This fast-paced business area deals primarily with pre-Phase A studies, mission capability analysis, and architecture trades allowing you to apply your talents to directly influence the design of future missions of national importance. The Military Space APD team environment is critical, and your ability to stretch yourself into new areas and contribute as a valued team member will be key to the success of this dynamic and growing business area.

• The Military Space APD Mission Analysis team consists of a diverse group of analysts with a wide range of engineering related expertise. Together, the team models spacecraft and payload capabilities in order to perform trade studies, aide requirement definition, predict mission performance, and contribute to technical proposals. The group’s orbit analyst is a key component of, and contributor to, the Mission Analysis team dynamic.
• The responsibilities of this position include:
o Performing spacecraft orbit revisit and access related analysis
o Creating unique, or modifying existing, orbit-propagation-based software tools to execute program specific analysis
o Modeling spacecraft behavior and space environment conditions
o Performing spacecraft orbit-to-target geometry related analysis
o Performing ground to satellite in-view analysis
o Participating in the development of payload and communication related concepts of operation
o Performing and documenting needs analysis and requirement development
o Documenting analysis results and verification/validation of analysis tools
o Developing and contributing to technical proposals with metrics-based solutions

The successful candidate is a self-starter who can prioritize and manage multiple tasks to completion.

**Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI level clearance with polygraph is a requirement for this position.**

Typically has 2 - 5 years of professional experience.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in in Aerospace Engineering or related field
- Prior modeling, simulation and analysis experience related to orbital mechanics
- Experience with MS Office applications and excellent written and oral communication skills
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI level clearance
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with spacecraft propulsion technology
- Experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK) or equivalent analysis tools that support high precision orbit integration, payload sensor modeling and maneuver modeling
- Astrodynamics
- Experience with modeling spacecraft payload sensors
- Geodesy coursework
- Familiarity with MATLAB
- Familiarity with STK/MATLAB integration
- Familiarity with orbit adjust modeling
- Familiarity with estimation theory and its applications
- Familiarity with propellant/delta-velocity budget generation
- Familiarity with Java
- Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph preferred
