The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. Through our own skills and those of our partners—including universities and research labs around the world—we’re able to put vision in motion. While we are a part of LM's space division, our technologies are far-reaching across domains. ATC’s story is written in the success of missions here on Earth and far, far into space.

The ATC is seeking a Staff Fiber Laser Engineer with expertise in the development of fiber lasers/amplifiers and nonlinear optical systems and devices. You should have experience in the design and modeling of lasers/amplifiers and frequency conversion devices, familiarity with current state-of-the-art in fiber lasers/amplifiers and nonlinear optical materials, and experience with the characterization and optimization of laser and nonlinear optical systems. Additional knowledge of related laser-based remote sensing technologies is desired, including coherent and direct detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier/wave optics, beam propagation, and/or atmospheric sciences.

Some of your responsibilities in this role will include the following:
• Selection of laser and/or nonlinear optical technologies
• Design of laser and nonlinear optical systems and devices
• Evaluation of predicted performance through computational modeling and analysis
• Laboratory testing and experimental demonstration
• Prototype development
• System analysis and integration
• Field demonstration
• Contribution to summary reports, oral presentations, and/or technical proposals is expected.

Basic Qualifications:
• Expertise in the design of laser and nonlinear optical systems and devices, including laser resonators, amplifiers, and parametric frequency converters.
• Expertise in modeling and analysis of fiber lasers and/or nonlinear optical frequency conversion
• Significant experience in one or more of the following areas: customized simulations of laser physics and quantum electronics, diffractive beam propagation, thermo-optic effects and parametric processes
• Strong knowledge of laser and optical physics
• DoD Top Secret clearance
Desired Skills:
• PhD in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related fields is strongly desired.
• Familiarity with optical design and analysis software tools. Examples include Zemax, FRED, GLAD, Code-V and LASCAD.
• Familiarity with laboratory development and modeling software tools (i.e. Matlab/Simulink, Labview, and Mathcad).
• Knowledge of related laser-based remote sensing technologies (i.e. coherent and direct detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier/wave optics, beam propagation, and/or atmospheric sciences, optical detection, signal/image processing).
• Field-related contacts/network.
• Ideally experienced with both product development and technology development organizations.
• Expertise in high-power ruggedized nanosecond-pulsed and continuous-wave fiber laser systems is desired.
• Expertise in directed energy systems is desired.
• Technical leadership of laser and NLO hardware transition to high TRL (for terrestrial, airborne, and/or space applications).
