Job Responsibilities
Description:The coolest jobs on this planet… or any other… are with Lockheed Martin Space. Lockheed Martin is a pioneer, partner, innovator and builder. Our amazing people are on a mission to make a difference in the world and every single day we use our skills and experiences to create, design and build solutions to some of the worlds’ hardest engineering problems. Do you want to join a team where employees envision the impossible, perform with excellence and build incredible products? We are creating a better today and tomorrow by seamlessly aligning diversity and inclusion efforts with Lockheed Martin’s values and business strategy.
This role formalizes the leadership for the test lab software development efforts for the ATLO Test Labs & Services (ATLS) organization, ensuring excellence in technical capability, software design and architecture expertise in the support of software needed with the various ATLS labs. This is a fast paced, non-flight software development environment. This leader will be expected to coordinate and interface directly with customers (Space Programs, COE’s, etc.), individual lab and ATLS leadership and team members to facilitate the collection of requirements and the architecture/design of various test and support software necessary to perform Space hardware testing throughout our product life cycles. Inherent in this software development is the need for commonality when practical, to select and standardize the hardware (compute, networking, data acquisition, control, etc.) that will, when combined with the software, deliver on the needs of the labs and our customers when appropriate.
Summary of Key Duties for this position:
• As the primary software development interface for the ATLS organization, you will drive effective communication and collaboration across the laboratories, and with strategic partners including software leads from E&T and ATLO as well as our Program customers.
• Commit time and resources to continuous process improvement and to providing solutions to difficult software engineering issues.
• Manage annual budgets, laboratory equipment, infrastructure, and capital planning to maintain and grow capabilities throughout ATLS.
• Hire, develop, maintain, and motivate the human resources required to meet the needs of our customers.
• Ensure that customers are provided with value added services that meet both cost and schedule targets.
• Work with planning support and customers to develop strategic software implementation plans to enable test automation and other cost savings initiatives in support of current and future programs.
• Provide the leadership vision and strategy to continually drive organizational transformation while reducing wasted/duplicative software efforts and develop employees to best serve the software needs of the ATLS test teams.
Basic Qualifications:
• Engineering degree (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Aerospace, Software/Computer Science) from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education with professional experience and specialized training commensurate with assignment.
• Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and behaviors that align with the Full Spectrum Leadership imperatives of Shaping the Future, Building Effective Relationships, Energizing the Team, Delivering Results and Modeling Personal Excellence, Integrity and Accountability.
• Experience leading teams in software architecture/development to deliver hardware/software systems to interface with electrical/mechanical end items to collect data and/or manipulate/control physical parameters. This is not a pure software environment, software driven interaction with the physical world is required.
• Demonstrated experience achieving positive results on projects involving major technical objectives by leading teams and exhibiting a continuous improvement mindset and strategic vision.
Desired Skills:
• Advanced (e.g. Master of Science) engineering or engineering management degree.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing collaborative strategies for continuous process improvement for improved affordability and/or efficiency in test solutions.
• Experience (preferably in a lab/test/development environment) or classroom knowledge of the LabVIEW programming environment
• Experience with other programming languages, various operating systems, networking solutions
• Hands on technical design experience incorporating laboratory equipment and/or custom-built hardware to create software controlled electro-mechanical systems
