The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. Through our own skills and those of our partners—including universities and research labs around the world—we’re able to put vision in motion. While we are a part of LM's space division, our technologies are far-reaching across domains. ATC’s story is written in the success of missions here on Earth and far, far into space.

The Principal Electro-Optical Engineer is a senior technical leader for optical sensing and laser technologies. Your work will guide development of relevant technologies, including active systems (LADAR/Lidar), and advanced optical sensing technologies.

As a Principal Electro-Optical Engineer your responsibilities will include:
• Own the payload‐level architecture which includes the following:
• Develop, communicate, and ensure implementation of the architecture vision across the full program lifecycle;
• Development and support of program stakeholder needs analysis (e.g., concept of operations, mission needs, operational user community needs; architecture analysis, key requirements definition and allocation; architectural drivers, interface definition, validates requirements);
• Development of data products/artifacts related to the system architecture (e.g. trade study summaries, analysis results, etc.);
• Development of key system-level performance measures;
• Conduct electro-optical system architecture analyses (e.g., modeling & simulation, performance analysis, quantitative methods);
• Planning and support for architecture verification and validation.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, optics, physics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong background in electro-optical engineering with significant experience in optical payloads and technology development
• Experience with both project/program management as well as proposals/pursuits
• Active Top Secret clearance
Desired Skills:
• Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role for electro-optical programs
• Advanced degree in a related field
• Hands-on technical experience across a wide variety of areas including optical design, electronics, image/signal processing, and/or opto-mechanical assemblies and mechanisms
• A proven track record of successful technical/strategic leadership of pursuits with US government contracts in the aerospace or related fields
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with technical and executive audiences
• Proven project management experience to lead a team and drive requirements for new products
