We are searching for a Hypersonic Materials Scientist to join our exceptional team. In this role you will support the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), which functions as the research labs for Lockheed Martin Space. You are a researcher with a physics, material science, mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering background with a focus on the hypersonic environment and effects. This role will be focused on material interactions with the unique environment offered at high speeds to understand and characterize the effects on LM systems. We will look for you to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, along with ability to succinctly summarize work to management and customers, be passionate about supporting aerospace and defense programs, and work well within a diverse and cross-functional environment. You will also will also have demonstrated ability for managing expectations with vendors and subcontractors, as well as reviewing, understanding, and translating material property analysis results.

Basic Qualifications:
• Deep understanding of material properties, especially at high temperatures
• Understanding of aerospace systems and their operational environments
• Experience with high temperature testing at the component and system level (i.e. mechanical, thermal)
• Experience designing experiments and knowledge of test methodology (i.e. arcjet, thermal conductivity)
Desired Skills:
• Advanced degree in a related field with 5+ years of work experience
• Ability to get up to speed quickly
• Experience using analysis and modeling tools (i.e. Creo, Catia)
• Understanding of composites, high-temp materials, and hypersonic systems
• Experience writing proposals and statements of work, and executing to them
• Experience interfacing with customer and preparing technical reports
• Ability to network and contribute to winning new business
