Description:Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more — we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.

At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We’re creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security® vision. We’re erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We’re advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we’re reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity.

Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that's built for you.

Lockheed Martin Space is accelerating NASA’s Artemis program, building on the success of Artemis II and fast tracking Artemis III V to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon. We are seeking a talented HW/SW integrator who will serve as the lead for Orion’s lidar payloads within the Reusable Proximity Operations Demonstration Unit (RPODU). In this role you will be responsible for the complete hardware software integration of lidar sensors that enable precise navigation, hazard avoidance, and autonomous docking during lunar proximity operations. Your work will directly support the upcoming Artemis missions, ensuring the lidar system is flight ready and fully validated for the demanding environment of lunar descent and surface operations.
The core of the position is to design, plan, and execute integrated testing campaigns in both hardware in the loop and software in the loop laboratory environments. You will develop test procedures, run full scale simulations of RPODU activities, capture and analyze sensor data, and apply automated and machine learning based techniques to identify performance issues quickly. Your ability to troubleshoot complex HW/SW interactions, generate clear documentation, and communicate findings to Orion avionics, flight software, and mission planning teams is essential for keeping Artemis III V on schedule.
Ideal candidates have a strong background in integrating lidar systems for spacecraft, with proven experience leading RPOD type projects from concept through flight qualification. Hands on experience in Orion test labs or similar NASA ground support facilities is a significant advantage, as is familiarity with the Orion software environment, real time embedded programming, and model driven development. You should be comfortable working in Agile teams, writing test automation code (C++/Python preferred), and driving continuous improvement of integration processes and test infrastructure.

If you are a creative problem solver with excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to mission success, and a passion for lunar exploration, we would love to hear from you. Join a world class team of Orion engineers and help shape the next era of human spaceflight as we return to the Moon and pave the way for future deep space missions.

Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to details required to delivery flight ready products, and an ability to work effectively in a rapid paced, team environment. In this role, you will be working in the development and test of software in a collaborative team environment.

This role will require some shift work in the evenings or weekends at times, but has general flexibility in fulfilling the 40-hour work week (e.g. working second shift excuses you from normal business day hours). Full time on-site work is required, but some of this role is able to be performed remotely, and flexibility for some remote work is acceptable upon coordination with management.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related technical field with 2 years of software engineering/development experience or a Master’s degree.

• Experience testing integrated hardware and software in a lab or simulated environment is required

• Experience with Lidar systems integration and test is required

• Test case, procedure development, and execution experience
• Experience with software integration and debugging techniques

• Linux / Unix experience

• Experience with Software Configuration Management tools (such as Perforce, GIT, or equivalent)

• Experience with Python or a similar scripting language is required
Desired Skills:
• Green Hills Integrity / Embedded programming a plus

• VxWorks programming experience a plus

• Experience with L2 and L3 network protocols, development, configuration and HW/SW integration a plus

• Familiar in Object Oriented Software Design is a plus

• Proficiency with C / C++ is a plus

• Experience in, or desire to learn about, spacecraft avionics design and development, C&DH, GN&C, COMM and Instrumentation, Propulsion, Electrical Power Systems, Automated mission sequencing, and Fault Management is a plus

• General Orion experience or knowledge a plus

• A demonstrated interest and ability to learn new tools and technologies and leverage those to successfully complete projects in a timely manner is required.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing is required.

• The ability to work well in a team environment and independently is required.
