Lockheed Martin is seeking a thought leader to serve the Navigation Systems mission area as Deputy Chief Engineer. This position supports the mission area Chief Engineer to strategically guide our multi-functional engineering team in achieving appropriately balanced (cost, technical, schedule, risk) solutions to meet mission needs. This individual is responsible for driving careful resolution of technical issues and supporting program execution of ongoing production (GPS III), new development (GPS IIIF) & future follow on business. The Deputy Chief Engineer will collaborate with program and enterprise engineering and management resources to achieve efficient, effective, and innovative Engineering solutions, including strategic product evolution, and identify opportunities to use common designs & products to enable affordable solutions.
Primary responsibilities of the Navigation Systems Deputy Chief Engineer are:
• Lead and drive closure in engineering forums, including Material Review Boards, Failure Review Boards, Qualification Review Boards, Engineering Review Boards, etc.
• Ensure engagement and integration of engineering resources to resolve anomalies and technical issues and ensure that lessons learned are captured and fed back into the corrective action process.
• Engage in architecture definition, technology development and insertion, and technical trades with an emphasis on commonality, best practices and value.
• Ensure that Command Media is followed and that designs are compliant to LM Space design standards and contractual requirements.
• Participate in make/buy decisions, product sourcing decisions, and supplier capability assessments.
• Support consistent and balanced coordination between LM and customer technical teams and establish relationships with customer counterparts to facilitate resolution of difficult program issues
• Clearly present information to customer, LM leadership and executive management to effectively communicate technical risk positions and recommendations
• Proactively mentor mission area engineers, including Certified Principal Engineers and Responsible System Engineers

Basic Qualifications:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience / combined education
• Minimum of 7 years of technical and/or leadership experience with demonstrated expertise in system design and integration
• Experience resolving complex technical issues from part level to system level leading to successful delivery of space systems
• Excellent communicator with experience presenting to internal leadership and external customers
• Collaborative approach to working within a large team to manage parallel efforts across portfolio demands
• Experience with development, assembly/integration/test, delivery, and operations of space systems
Desired Skills:
• Expertise in A2100/LM2100 spacecraft system design.
• Prior experience as a subsystem or system CPE/RSE within the LM Space culture.
• Expertise in architecture, design, integration, and troubleshooting of complex RF payload systems
• Experience leading technical teams responsible for space hardware, software, or systems.
• Experience with supplier developed hardware to include collaboration with enterprise subcontract management teams.
• Experience working in a fast-paced production environment
• Demonstrated experience and success supporting proposals and winning new business
• Ability to support infrequent business travel
