System Safety Engineer Sr

The Aviation & Product Safety (A&PS) Department is looking for an individual to support Safety Management Systems (SMS) objectives related to aircraft design, flight test and production operations for Sikorsky. This Aviation Safety Official (ASO)/Flight Test Safety Engineer will support the site lead in the following areas:

Support test operations for USG and commercial programs.

Be responsible for development, assessment and execution of safety requirements for the manufacturing, post production and engineering flight test operations on the West Palm Beach RMS campus with additional support facilities as required.

Interface with civil and military customer Flight Safety Officials and conduct Flight Operations Safety Audits to assess compliance with DCMAI 8210 and applicable Lockheed Martin safety policies.

Work with the Fire Department and Flight Operations to ensure that fire protection and rescue, emergency response and air traffic control issues are addressed for all Lockheed Martin flight and aircraft maintenance.

Collaborate with site and enterprise leadership to enhance safety risk management; keep A&PS leadership updated through weekly status reports.

Interface with civil and military customer Flight Safety Officials and ensure compliance with the aviation safety requirements of DCMA INST 8210 and corporate safety policies.

This individual will interface with the Model Development Safety Committee (MDSC) to identify flight test safety hazards and approve risk mitigation strategies.

Lead root cause investigations and approve corrective actions for incidents and near misses.

Ensure adequate risk mitigation and safety oversight for hazardous energy test operations (Laser, Radar, HF, IR etc.).

Provide additional assistance to the Aviation & Product Safety organization as required to include Development Product Safety, Air Safety Investigation, and Fleet Safety.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of 3 years of Aviation Safety related experience. Requires aviation safety program and audit experience.

Flight Test, Aviation Maintenance, Flight Operations, or Human Factors experience with a strong aviation and technical background is strongly desired. Rotorcraft flight or maintenance experience is preferred.

Familiarity with USG contracts and documentation, specifically DCMAI 8210.

Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills are required.

Requires database input, query, analysis, and reporting experience. Requires experience working with Microsoft Office suite for report writing, spreadsheet analysis, and presentation of charts, graphs and data. Proven structured, team-oriented problem solving skills with an emphasis on team leadership.

Must be able to operate independently, with minimal supervision.

US citizenship is required.
Desired Skills:
Proven structured, team-oriented problem solving skills with an emphasis on team leadership. Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and/or SAE ARP4761 and their associated system safety methodologies.
