Principal Systems Engineer - Aerodynamics

Description:This position is for a Principal Aeronautical Systems Engineer. The Tactical Missiles Advanced Programs area is looking for an Aerospace Engineer familiar with missile flight regimes through hypersonic, ability to perform as systems lead trading key performance parameters (survivability, lethality, aerodynamics, propulsion, sensor, SWAP), strong experience across adjacent disciplines (design/GNC/I&T), ability to lead IRAD efforts, working emerging/DARPA to full-scale developments, and ability to lead and mentor less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities will include oversight of a team of engineers in the derivation of missile system design requirements from top-level performance requirements; conceptual, preliminary and detailed aerodynamic design of missile systems; development of aerodynamic databases using various analytical methods; wind tunnel test planning and execution; and flight test planning and execution. Perform independent technical reviews for various programs as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing design and process improvement recommendations.

Basic Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of technical achievements on various flight vehicle programs such as tactical missiles, cruise missiles, and manned or unmanned aircraft. Candidate must demonstrate a clear understanding of aerodynamic design principles and their application on missile systems. Considered an expert in the field. Must have significant experience with flight vehicle conceptual and detailed design, aerodynamic analysis, wind tunnel testing, and flight testing. Extensive experience with systems flying in transonic and supersonic flight regimes is required. Experience with hypersonic aerodynamics and aero-thermodynamics is highly desired. An understanding of flight performance and 6-DOF modeling and simulation is required. Demonstrated experience leading teams of engineers in the development of new flight systems in roles such as Design Lead, Chief Engineer, or Engineering Manager positions. Must be familiar with FORTRAN, C++, or similar high level programming language.

The ability to clearly articulate complex technical ideas is critical to this position.

Must have a secret clearance
Desired Skills:
CFD experience with CFD++, STAR-CCM+ or similar codes is highly desired. Experience with preliminary aero design tools such as Missile DATCOM, VORLAX, VLAERO, MSES or XFOIL. Airfoil design experience is highly desirable, especially low aspect ratio missile control fin sizing. Experience with store separation is highly desirable.
