Description:
You will be the Packaging & Shipping Engineer for the Program Integration & Packaging Team at LMCO MFC Dallas. Our team drives the end to end packaging strategy for aircraft programs, ensuring every component— from sub systems to hazardous cargo— meets contractual, DOT CFR 49, and security requirements while supporting timely delivery to our customers.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Packaging & Shipping Engineer you will be the program’s primary point of contact for all packaging and transportation needs. You’ll work side by side with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), suppliers, and the LM Shipping department to develop, qualify, and continuously improve packaging solutions that protect value critical hardware and comply with safety and classification rules.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Collaborating with IPTs, suppliers, and the shipping organization to define packaging and transport requirements for systems, subsystems, and components.
• Writing and maintaining Special Packaging Instructions (SPI) and ensuring compliance with contractual and DOT CFR 49 POP standards.
• Managing shipments of hazardous, classified, and unclassified items, acting as the POC for routing, documentation, and clearance.
• Evaluating and introducing new packaging techniques to streamline the shipping process and reduce cost.
• Conducting root cause analysis on damaged shipments and driving corrective actions that align with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Influencing program objectives and long range goals for Packaging Data Content (PDC) products and services.
• Coordinating all shipping requests through LM Shipping and the broader PHS&T team, ensuring timely execution.
• Maintaining a Secret clearance (or obtaining one) and supporting site specific safety and security protocols.

Further Information About This Opportunity:
This position is in Grand Prairie, TX.
MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
Knowledge of shipping practices and procedures and inspection requirements. Knowledge of Company, vendor and customer shipping documents, forms, and other paperwork.
Ability to use the Company purchase request and other applicable computer systems. Knowledge of appropriate handling and packaging procedures and Federal Department of Transportation regulations as they relate to hazardous materials. Ability to apply knowledge of MSDS in order to receive, inventory and identify hazardous materials as it pertains to GMP.
• Develop Special Packaging Instructions required as support documentation to obtain Initial Hazard Classification, procure or fabricate packaging, and execute packaging and shipment of hardware.
• Plan and conduct Performance Oriented Packaging Testing and Reporting. Task includes preparing test plan, coordinating with testing facility, observing testing, gathering result data, and completing test report
• Program Packaging Support. Includes coordinating with shipping departments, working on identifying required packaging, interfacing with regulatory agencies, and supporting program packaging questions and meetings.
• Ensuring all Packaging, Handling and Storage (PHS) program/technical reviews are scheduled and conducted.
• Ensuring provisions for efficient and economical protection for all system materiel are defined.
• Develop initial packaging and packing required to ship system equipment to support test flights, ground tests, Logistic Demonstration and System Support Package requirements will be best commercial packaging utilizing procedures outlined in American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) D 3951. Preservation and packaging methods and designs will be of minimum cost consistent with the protection required.
• Ensure all system hardware identified by System Safety as hazardous or dangerous materials will be packaged, packed, marked and labeled as required by Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations.
• Planning and ensuring Performance Oriented Packaging (POP) testing requirements will be complied with for all hazardous materials shipped by test reports will be developed in contractor format for hazardous materials identified per 49 CFR.
• POP Test reports will be prepared and submitted in accordance with Data Item Description (DID)-1030. Hard copy will be submitted for DOT container certification and copies made available to other Customer agencies via the Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service (CITIS).
• Conducting analysis of handling equipment requirements will ensure adequate facilities and equipment for handling system hardware will be available at storage depots and installations that will handle system materiel. Handling equipment requirements will be monitored throughout the program and every effort will be made to limit new requirements.

• Generally has 3+ years of related experience and may have a post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline.
• Strong technical background
• Mechanical Computer Aided Drawing (MCAD) skills. CREO preferred
• PTC Pro/E skills
• Strong technical background
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build effective working relationships and be able to work well in a team atmosphere.
• Be flexible with an outstanding work ethic and possess the ability to respond quickly to internal and external customer requirements
• Candidate must be willing to work onsite, overtime and int. travel as needed to support program requirements
• Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, technical writing experience, and an ability to perform oral presentations in front of large groups
• Hazardous Materials transportation and shipping regulation knowledge
• Familiar with Military specifications/standards
• Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) knowledge
• Familiarity and experience working with Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 (Parts 171-180)
• Familiarity and experience working with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instruction for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, or the International Maritime Organization's International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDGC) based on the modes of shipment.
• Familiarity and experience working with commercial packaging in accordance with ASTM D 3951 that allows for storage in enclosed facilities for one (1) year without damage to the hardware.
• Product Data Management software and workflow process familiarity

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
