Description:
You will be the Opto-Mechanical Engineering Manager for the Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control (MFC) organization. Our team develops cutting edge infrared (IR) sensors for missile and aerospace applications, delivering high performance mechanical designs that enable precision, durability and survivability.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Opto-Mechanical Engineering Manager you will provide functional, group and technology leadership for a multidisciplinary mechanical engineering team. You will oversee recruitment, career development, performance and salary planning, while acting as a mentor and coach to foster continuous skill growth and a customer focused delivery mindset. You will expand the team’s technical capability, manage mechanical design and analysis resources, and drive technical excellence, affordability and program execution across the focal plane sensor portfolio. Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing functional and group management for the mechanical engineering team: recruitment, career development, performance assessments, salary planning and employee recognition.
• Acting as mentor and coach to engineers, fostering continuous skill growth, knowledge transfer initiatives and customer focused delivery of cutting edge IR sensors.
• Performing gap assessments, defining training plans and leading knowledge transfer activities to expand the team’s technical capability.
• Managing mechanical design and analysis resources to support a portfolio of focal plane sensor programs.
• Serving as the senior subject matter expert and technology leader for all aspects of mechanical engineering design (structural, thermal, materials, manufacturing).
• Driving technical excellence, affordability and program execution by enforcing Engineering Practice Manual (EPM) and Design Assurance standards, guiding Design Assurance plans and ensuring rigorous engineering processes.
• Supporting program development, Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) planning and Basis of Estimate (BOE) generation.
• Overseeing design assurance activities, reviewing technical data, ensuring compliance with quality, safety and reliability requirements.
• Coordinating with cross functional teams (systems, electrical, software, test, manufacturing) to integrate mechanical designs into sensor systems.
• Managing technical risk, conducting trade studies and promoting cost effective, manufacturable solutions.
• Contributing as an individual contributor on high impact technical tasks while providing overall functional leadership.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including 5+ years in a senior or managerial role
• Knowledge and experience in cooled infrared sensor mechanical design, manufacturing, and assembly including materials, processes, and suppliers
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in defense or aerospace programs
• Experience with 3D Technical Data Packages in accordance with MIL-STD-31000 or ASME Y14.41.
• Experience with creating engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience in engineering project management including engineering release, cost, and schedule tracking
• 5+ years experience with industry-standard mechanical CAD software (preferably Creo)
• Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance
Desired Skills:
• Experience with MFC’s hardware design tool of choice, Creo
• Familiarity with DFMEA, DFMECA, and reliability centered design methodologies
• Knowledge and experience in cryocooler and cryostat design, manufacturing, and assembly.
• Experience in optical design and stray light analysis and practices
• Strong project management skills (IMS/BOE development, schedule tracking)
• Effective coaching/mentoring ability and excellent interpersonal communication
• Exposure to integrated product team (IPT) environments and systems engineering processes
• Experience with infrared sensors and systems
• Experience supporting proposals including developing Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and staffing projections
• Experience in PTC WindChill PLM and Atlassian Jira
• Top Secret clearance
• Participation with Configuration Control Board (CCB) in a production setting.
• Previous Material Review Board (MRB) and Failure Review Board (FRB) experience in a production setting.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $128,400 - $226,435. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
