Technology Strategist Director

Description:The Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) is a Lockheed Martin (LM) applied research and development center. Aligned with the Corporation’s Chief Technology Officer, we work to advance scientific discovery and technology transition in human systems, robotics and autonomy, spectrum systems, data analytics and more. In this role, the successful candidate will:

STRATEGY: Be responsible for developing technology strategies and roadmaps that align with customer and LM business needs across a broad range of technical domains. Demonstrated ability to bridge from technical capabilities to visionary ideas, initially in defense applications of artificial intelligence (AI). Define and implement practical, actionable strategies at the overall ATL and individual laboratory levels that include compelling visions for next-generation capability, expanded technology transition, and measurable positive impact on our customers, defense, and national security. Inventory ATL capabilities and technology differentiators to identify critical skills, capabilities, and gaps which align with forward-looking strategies. Define and implement strategy plan and roadmap development processes that ensure continuing relevance to LM Business Areas, LM customers, and emerging technology trends.

Demonstrate leadership and the ability to influence change at all levels of an organization. Assist with employee recruitment, development, and retention of top level talent to build capabilities in key future technology areas. Experience inspiring and leading teams and mentoring / developing junior strategists.

SHAPING: Demonstrate the ability to bridge from technical capabilities to visionary ideas, initially in defense applications of artificial intelligence (AI). Demonstrate skills in market analysis and market trends; strong business acumen; multiple-year history of successful development and execution of AI programs with DARPA, the service laboratories, and other government research organizations.

MEMBER OF ATL LEADERSHIP TEAM: Demonstrate team orientation and partnering. Be effective in delivering results in a highly competitive environment. Collaborate with team members to define and implement long range and short range strategic plans. Communicate strategic vision, collaborate with team members to identify gaps in current portfolio and define projects to fill those gaps. Partner with the ATL Chief Technology Officer and Lab Directors to define project focus and identify sources of funding.

TEAMING: Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and work with internal Lockheed Martin customers as well as external customers. Align ATL’s technology strategies and roadmaps with those of internal Lockheed Martin Business Areas (BAs) and external customers. Maintain regular communications with Lockheed Martin Lines of Businesses (LOBs) for which ATL technologies are of interest. Work across BAs to align strategy; drive cross-BA collaboration in support of strategic growth strategies.
Basic Qualifications:
• Strong strategy and business development skills
• Strong history of technical and business experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence; Strong understanding of the state of the art in machine learning
• Top Secret clearance required prior to start; and ability to obtain a TS/SCI
• Advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, applied statistics, various engineering disciplines, or related STEM discipline
Desired Skills:
• Experience with DARPA, AFRL, ONR; Multiple years of experience with DARPA and/ or the Service Labs
• Demonstrated skills in market analysis and market trends
• Demonstrated ability to bridge from technical capabilities to visionary ideas
• Strong business acumen and communication skills
• Experience with inspiring and leading teams
• Demonstrated track record of working collaboratively internally and externally to deliver on business commitments
