The Lockheed Martin Chelmsford/Westford facility is seeking its next enthusiastic and motivated Sr Mechanical Drafter Designer to join our growing team supporting multifaceted test consoles designed, built, and maintained at the Chelmsford facility.

Responsibilities include the following:
- Plans, lays outs, draws, and revises part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings from basic layouts, established references, notes and discussions with engineers, and standard data.
- Drafting/Designing Test Stand architecture for the site’s custom Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems.
- Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or manual tools.
- Completes layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices or may develop complete major layouts of engineering drawings.
- Within parameters determines scaling required; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning; prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations.
- Role may also include some designs of components or potions of assemblies to modify existing designs to develop or improve test equipment, automation, and manufacturing processing/test.
- Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.

The Locale: Chelmsford and Westford are charming suburbs of Boston located about 25 miles northwest of that city. They are very close to historic Lowell Massachusetts and to Nashua, New Hampshire. Chelmsford and Westford are also within reach of New Hampshire’s White Mountains and awesome ski areas to the north, and the scenic coastal towns of MA and NH are about an hour east. This scenic colonial region offers lots of New England charm, great schools, shopping, and restaurants. Chelmsford and the region share an impressive past from the early days after the pilgrims arrived in Plymouth to the revolutionary war. Where can you get to from Chelmsford and Westford? Chelmsford and Westford are about 90 minutes from Cape Cod. Boston is about 30 minutes to the east without traffic. New York City is about 4.5 hours away. Waterville Valley and other major ski resorts of New Hampshire and Vermont are about 2 to 3 hours to the north. It should be noted that Chelmsford and Westford, Massachusetts are approximately 35 miles northwest of the Boston metropolitan area and offer better access to a wide range of substantially more affordable regions in the area to live. Those regions include Northeastern and North Central Massachusetts, and Southern, New Hampshire.
Basic Qualifications:
- Technical Associates degree or equivalent professional certifications/experience.

- A minimum 3 years professional experience in design of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems, including Automated Test Equipment.

- Must have experience with 3D modeling within Computer Aided Design (CAD) environments such as with Creo, Pro-E, Windchill, AutoCAD, or equivalent software.

- Experience with materials and fabrication techniques including, machine shop practices, plating etc.

- 3D detail modeling and documentation skills including GD&T. Familiarity with industry standards including Mil-Specs and ASME Y14.5.

- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, oral and written.

- Candidate must be eligible to obtain a secret clearance and be able to obtain at least an interim secret security clearance before starting the position.
Desired Skills:
- 5 or more years of professional experience

- Mechanical drafting/design of test equipment

- Assembly and test tooling and fixture design

- Experience with Windchill/EPDM

- Basic mechanical engineering design skills

- Experience with RF, microwave, and electro-mechanical devices

- Ability to sustain excellent engineering documentation, configuration management, and revision control practices

- Cable design and documentation

- CADENCE PWB layout experience
