Job Responsibilities
Description:
You will be the FPGA Design Engineer for the FPGA & Digital Design team at Lockheed Martin’s Chelmsford, MA campus. Our team creates cutting edge digital and FPGA solutions that power multi function missile modules, wireless datalink communications and high performance microwave systems.
What You Will Be Doing
As the FPGA Design Engineer you will turn challenging concepts into reliable hardware and firmware that meet strict size, weight, power and security requirements. You will partner with FPGA specialists, microwave experts and cross functional groups to deliver end to end digital solutions. Your responsibilities will include:
• Designing, coding and verifying complex FPGA architectures that embed DSP, SDR, encryption, networking and microwave circuit control.
• Developing RTL logic, register transfer level code and supporting circuitry for multi function modules.
• Creating and maintaining firmware and design requirement documents that define system architecture and performance targets.
• Performing hardware and firmware debugging in the lab using state of the art test equipment and oscilloscopes.
• Leveraging the latest FPGA families with embedded ARM processors to meet software hardware integration goals.
• Conducting peer reviews of firmware code and digital designs to ensure quality, standards compliance and traceability.
• Selecting devices, evaluating part availability and managing component obsolescence to keep designs manufacturable and affordable.
• Working closely with test, mechanical and manufacturing engineering teams to validate designs through prototypes, SIL/HIL testing and production hand offs.
• Supporting wireless datalink communication system development for missile and fire control applications.
• Contributing to continuous learning initiatives, sharing knowledge and mentoring junior engineers in best practices.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
• BS Degree, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or closely related technical field.
• Embedded software development knowledge focused on Software‑Defined Radio (SDR) and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) systems.
• Proficiency in C/C++ programming is required.
• Demonstrated ability to design DSP algorithms using MATLAB, C/C++ and HDL code.
• Some experience in implementing digital logic designs using both traditional RTL (HDL) and modern HLS methodologies for FPGAs.
• Hands on experience with scripting languages such as Python, TCL, Bash, batch files, and make files.
• Proficient with version‑control systems, particularly Git.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems in the lab using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
• The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the ability to multi-task are required.
• Candidate must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Desired Skills:
• A Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• Experience with AMD, Intel and Microsemi FPGA’s with embedded ARM (SOC) processors and tools.
• Knowledge of wireless communications and antennas as it applies to microwave designs.
• Familiar with serial communication protocols, including I²C, SPI, UART, and RS‑422.
• Proficient in software development across both Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Familiar with Atlassian Jira (or comparable tools) for software issue tracking and sprint management.
• Proficient in hardware board bring‑up for CCA and PCB assemblies.
• Prior engineering experience in aerospace, aeronautics, defense, space.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $82,900 - $146,165. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
