The Payload Launch Sites Support Services (PLSSS) Program provides all launch processing support functions for Office of Space Launch (OSL). Our program’s two primary operating locations are Vandenberg AFB, CA and Cape Canaveral AFS, FL. Key elements of our program scope include satellite launch processing, satellite transport operations, satellite propellant loading operations, and satellite processing facilities O&M, clean room operations, and safety and environmental services.

In this role:
• You will participate in the outlining, designing and directing of engineering projects within the business unit.
• You will lead aspects of the HVAC/Utilities design process, assist with specialized designs, and work on several concurrent assignments within the organization.
• You will identify scope of work for mechanical designs (HVAC/Utilities) based on preliminary review of customer requirements.
• You will prepare and perform engineering studies and designs for new HVAC/Utilities systems
• You will assess and analyze the operation of existing systems.
• You will make calculations using engineering formulas and skills for design such as heating and cooling loads, equipment sizing, etc.
• You will provide drawings for designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by drafters.
• You will assemble detailed estimates and develop probable cost estimates for the smaller activities within the business unit.
• You will engage in the planning, procedure development, generation of work authorizing documents, and real-time operations and oversight
• You will operate and maintain facility HVAC systems
• You will support and manage corrosion control
• You will investigate and correct anomalies
• You will develop work orders to disposition system problems
• You will implement upgrades and design projects
• You will supply and update drawings, plans, and procedures
• You will draw up purchase requisitions
• You will perform special tests and investigations

We are based in Cape Canaveral, Florida but you may enjoy minimal travel to the central California area to support our contracted supplier. As our new Mechanical HVAC Engineer, you will collaborate with other disciplines, teams and our Customer Partners to ensure program requirements are being met, delivering the work products and being accountable for landmark achievements at a high level of reporting.

Typical minimums for this position are 5-9 years of Facility/HVAC design experience with an engineering degree.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and five years of facilities Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning experience or a combination of education and experience in lieu of degree.

• Must be a US citizen, will be subject to a government security investigation, and must meet eligibility requirements for an elevated clearance for access to classified information
Desired Skills:
• Experience with Design, Analysis and Operation
• Familiarity with Direct Digital Control (DDC) Systems as applied to HVAC Systems
• Ability to read, interpret and apply mechanical system codes, drawings and specifications
• Familiarity with Section 608 of the Clean Air Act (Refrigerant Management Requirements)
• Familiarity with Predictive Maintenance Technologies (PdM)
• Familiarity with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) practices
• Ability to develop maintenance requirements and documentation for complex HVAC systems based on
RCM analysis
