Description:Lockheed Martin Energy Storage is commercializing a new flow battery technology for low-cost, grid-scale energy storage to support renewable energy integration and grid modernization. We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic technician to help support high-throughput, lab-scale battery testing and development to facilitate achievement of technology development goals.

We offer: battery set-up/tear-down; test stand operation and maintenance; data collection and analysis; engineering troubleshooting in collaboration with staff scientists and engineers.

Daily activities will include assembly/tear down of cell package (end plates, flow fields, current collectors, electrodes, and membranes), test stand operation and maintenance (electrolyte fluid connections, pump operation, sensors (pH and state-of-charge)), battery test control (potentiostat current/ voltage schedule and automation), data collection and computational analysis, training of new users, and maintenance of hardware and soft goods inventory. The data gathered from these tests will be utilized to make key product design decisions that impact the performance, durability, and affordability of the product.

Cambridge is just across the river from Boston and is located in eastern Massachusetts. Cambridge is home to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University. Cambridge, is also the birthplace of many startup companies due to the high amount of brain power produced by these schools and also from nearby Tufts University, Boston College, Boston University, Brandies University, Wellesley College, Babson College, and Northeastern University. Nearby communities would include scenic coastal towns such as Swampscott, Salem, and Marblehead. To the west are communities such as Belmont, Brookline, Watertown, Waltham, Lincoln, and Concord. Our Lockheed Martin AES site is located somewhat close to the Alewife Station which is a major MBTA transit hub with access to the Red Line with service to Boston and bus lines with service to surrounding neighborhoods and adjacent communities. If you like living in right in the city, or out in the suburbs, or near the ocean, our location will offer ample choices for you. Where can you get to from Cambridge and Boston? Cape Cod is less than 90 minutes to the southeast. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are 2.5 hours to the north. Providence, RI is about 2 hours to the southwest. Montreal is about 5 hours to the northwest.
Basic Qualifications:
High School diploma and additional specialized training equivalent to an Associate degree in a field of science or engineering.
• Five (5) or more years of lab or testing experience.
• A basic understanding of chemistry, simple electronics, and computer driven data acquisition/analysis is desirable.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed SOPs and other test documentation required.
• Demonstrated communication and data reporting skills (written and verbal). Experience with MS Office family of products desired.
• Ability to operate safely within a laboratory environment that complies with company chemical hygiene policies and laboratory best practices.
Desired Skills:
Associates degree or Bachelors of Arts/Science in a field of science or engineering.
• Experience troubleshooting chemical, mechanical, or instrumentation systems.
• Prior experience in electrochemistry or the energy storage field a plus.
• Experience with commercial battery testers and/or scientific DAQ systems a strong plus.
• A strong attention to detail and experience with documentation is crucial.
