Description:Lockheed Martin Energy is a leading developer of fully integrated turn-key energy storage systems. We offer traditional lithium-ion battery products and are in the process of commercializing a new class of flow battery technology for low-cost grid-scale energy storage systems based on novel aqueous electrolyte solutions.

We are seeking a recent graduate or early career application engineer with computer programming experience. The applicant should have deep interest or experience with energy markets - via coursework, internships or past employment - to assist in energy storage market/application analysis and the development of analytical tools with a focus on assessing the business opportunity for energy storage in wholesale power markets.

The successful candidate will work with business analytics, the sales team and customers to qualify leads and establish the business case for projects. The individual will be responsible for synthesizing findings, writing reports, preparing slide decks and presenting business cases both internally and to customers. The successful candidate will also participate in research projects focused on market opportunities for long-duration storage in markets that are quickly moving towards a high penetration of renewables (e.g. solar PV and wind). In addition, the individual will work with business analytics to expand existing modeling capabilities and grow Lockheed Martin Energy’s analytics offering. This includes modeling flow and traditional batteries under a variety of behind-the-meter and front-of-the meter wholesale market revenue streams.

The individual must be flexible, able to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, be a strong team member, be capable of prioritizing work flow and be able to work independently at times.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or other related technical field with extensive computer programming experience.

Passionate about energy with an interest in or some familiarity with electricity markets and basic operation of the electric grid.

Basic understanding of microeconomics and project finance.

Strong communicator, capable of explaining technical concepts and findings to a broad audience.

Programming experience: Such as Mathematica, MatLab, Python, R, Java, or C++, etc.
Desired Skills:
Master-level degree in in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or other related technical field with extensive programming experience.

Experience or exposure to techno-economic energy system modeling, including energy storage, wholesale market participation, renewable generation and microgrid applications.

Understanding of or interest in energy policy and how policy impacts commercial energy market opportunities.
Experience with energy economics, policy and project finance.

Familiarity with U.S. (e.g. CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, ERCOT, SPP, etc.) and international energy markets.
