The Work
This position is for a Mechanical Engineering Department Associate Manager reporting to the Engineering and Technology (E&T) Senior Manager.
The Associate Manager will be responsible for day to day staff management supporting successful attainment of functional and program objectives. The Associate Manager will have direct responsibility for personnel and resource allocation to programs as well as career development for the staff and will have strategic assignments targeting the long-term growth and health of the engineering organization.
In this role, the manager may participate in program work under direct assignment or by helping put together and execute recovery plans, reviewing Earned Value Management (EVM) data, and participating in key milestone event preparation (PDR, CDR, etc.) and peer reviews. This first line manager will also participate in and contribute to proposal generation and cost estimating of new work.
The position will focus on cultivating talent and technical leadership in personnel as well as instilling engineering process and discipline supporting a production environment. The manager will coach staff on engineering development decisions appropriate for R&D results up through reliable production product. The manager will mentor staff to create strong customer presentations with clear messaging. The manager will listen for and bring forward new innovations and technologies that can increase product performance or become common across projects. The manager will guide technology/product updates to address new missions.

The Locale: Bothell is a city located in the state of Washington in the Pacific Northwest. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Bothell is home to Cascadia Community College and the University of Washington, Bothell. Bothell was until recently predominantly a bedroom community with most of its residents working outside of the city. Starting in the 1990s, several businesses opened offices in Bothell, creating a regional employment center providing about 20,000 jobs. Where can you get to from Bothell? Seattle is about 25 minutes to the south. Tacoma is an hour's drive away. Portland, OR is just over three hours to the south. Vancouver, BC is just over two hours to the north.
Basic Qualifications:
• Experience leading small to medium sized teams
• Significant experience with mechanical engineering and taking a design from concept through product integration
• Experience resolving organizational and/or personnel issues; Comfortable with leading change and guiding organizational decisions towards short and long term goals
• Experience with ensuring adherence to engineering process
• Experience with all phases of the hardware development process
• CAD, EPDM, and cost account management experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or closely related technical discipline
Desired Skills:
• Masters or PhD. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or closely related technical discipline
• Demonstrated strong communications, coordination, integration, and advanced planning skills
• Experience leading product development teams
• Experience translating mid-TRL technology to high TRL products and solutions. An understanding of design for manufacturing is a plus.
• Proficiency in CAD design tools (e.g., CREO, SolidWorks)
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, and manufacturing processes
• Experience developing winning proposals for DoD customers
• Comfortable with emerging technology and the challenges that this environment presents.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $104,500 - $184,115. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
