Description:Lockheed Martin's Corporate Tax organization within Enterprise Operations is seeking candidates for one of the Tax Counsel Director positions. This position will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:


• Tax research and planning regarding the U.S. and foreign tax aspects of the Corporation’s business operations and activities.

• Develop, document and implement tax-efficient structures for acquisitions, dispositions, JVs, partnerships, financings, and restructurings, including interaction with Corporate and business unit management, Lockheed Martin’s outside counsel, investment bankers, and counsel for the other party to the transaction where appropriate.

• Defend tax controversies (including IRS Audit and state income tax audits) and prosecute tax refund proceedings in administrative appeals and litigation.

• Monitor, model and advise on tax legislation/regulations/other tax guidance that could impact the Corporation’s business operations.

• Under the leadership of the V.P, Taxes & General Tax Counsel and in coordination with Government Affairs, coordinate and direct the Corporation’s tax legislative strategy.

• Advise business units on legal and contractual structure of contracts and business operations to minimize tax liabilities and enhance competitiveness of the Corporation’s. operations.

• Oversee tax advice to international programs via the IBNS system and recommend appropriate organizational structures to obtain the most favorable tax consequences in each country where business is or proposed to be conducted by Lockheed Martin.

• Direct ASC 740 and ASC 450 evaluations of uncertain positions, including assessment of reserve analysis and interaction with Corporate Accounting in tax reserve analysis.

• Advise management, Human Resources, Shared Services and Corporate Legal regarding tax aspects of executive compensation and employee benefits, including section 162(m) (million-dollar cap), 280G (golden parachutes), 409A (nonqualified deferred compensation), and the deductibility, withholding & reporting, and includability of benefits and compensation. This does not include responsibility for ERISA or plan qualification issues, which are handled in the Law Department.

• Lead the direct efforts of three tax attorneys and possibly a couple tax accountants and actively develop their technical skills and Full Spectrum Leadership qualities.

• Where applicable, direct the efforts of outside counsel and consultants.
Basic Qualifications:
• JD degree from accredited law school
• Admitted in good standing to bar of at least one state
• Substantial knowledge of and experience with US & foreign tax laws
• Experience advising multinational corporations on tax efficient structures under US and foreign law
• Familiarity with rules governing accounting for income taxes
• Effective verbal and written skills
• High level of personal and professional integrity
• Transactional and litigation experience
• Ability to work in collaborative environment
• Proven decision-making ability
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities
• Leadership experience managing tax attorneys and/or tax accountants; leading large scale projects
Desired Skills:
• Major law firm training or Big 4 accounting firm training and large company tax department experience
• Experience with recent (2017 forward) tax reform implementation and OECD Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 familiarity
• Experience with indirect taxation (VAT/GST)
• Some experience in book and tax accounting
• Aerospace/defense industry knowledge and experience
• 15 years’ tax experience strongly preferred

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
