Data Engineering Lead

Description:We are looking for a highly motivated data engineer to take over as the Data Engineering Lead as part of the Corporate HR Data Science team at Lockheed Martin. This position will be responsible for the enhancement and management of the team’s entire back-end architecture. As a core member of the data science team, you will play a critical role in the growth of a highly-optimized, data science and machine learning team. This position will be responsible for the development, construction, testing, and maintenance of our architecture, relevant systems, and data to support high-quality products and services regularly deployed.

Responsibilities will include:
• Enhance and maintain data pipelines to pull together information from data sources using various languages and tools.
• Develop processes and best practices for data discovery, modeling, mining, and production (including ETL).
• Work with the data science team to assist in the creation and optimization of production machine learning workflows.
• Partner with the team to upgrade system capabilities, including data accessibility, to enhance user experience.
• Explore and recommend emerging technologies and techniques to support/enhance products.
• Partner with the IT organization to share knowledge and best practices.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or any other technology related field.
• 5 years of professional experience in production back-end management and data pipeline development and maintenance.
• Proficiency in applied programing and manipulation of data with programming languages (e.g. Python or Java).
• Demonstrated experience working with database structures (e.g. relational, noSQL, graph) and retrieval methods (SQL, database specific queries, API’s).
• Experience with a range of data storage options such as Amazon S3.
• Familiarity with data governance best practices and appropriate tools.
• Experience cleaning, filtering, transforming and/or enriching data to assure production-quality pipeline enhancement and maintenance.
• Focused attention to process improvement and efficiency.
• Ability to adjust to changing demands; must be able to adjust priorities, working on both urgent requests and longer-term projects.
• Project/plan management; time management and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work across organizations, geographies, levels and to develop and maintain positive professional relationships.
• Communicate verbally and visually in ways the customer understands.
• Demonstrate adaptable consulting and facilitation skills.
Desired Skills:
• Master’s or experience in computer science or other technical related fields.
• Experience managing multiple projects at a time while managing ambiguity.
• Passion for working in a high-paced environment focused on delivering the highest quality products and services to customers.
• Familiarity with cloud services as applied in the DoD and aerospace industry.
• Knowledge of emerging technical skills, tools, and best practices.
