Job Responsibilities
Description:DESIGN. DEPLOY. DOMINATE. Accelerate innovation. Accelerate victory. In today’s contested battlespace, speed becomes the warfighter’s decisive edge. By designing cutting edge systems, deploying them at unprecedented pace, and dominating the operational spectrum, we turn rapid innovation into tangible battlefield advantage.
Lockheed Martin’s Rapid Action Team (RAT) is hiring a Technical Product Manager! This cross‑disciplinary unit within the Technology & Strategy Initiatives (T&SI) blends defense‑mission engineering with cutting‑edge commercial technology to deliver scalable capabilities in under 24 months. Working “left of requirements,” we spot mission gaps early and prototype solutions with a lean, flat, agile structure that removes bureaucracy and accelerates concepts to field‑ready capability. By partnering with leading commercial firms, we bring today’s innovations directly to the warfighter. As a self‑starting, special‑operations‑style team, we never wait for a budget line or formal requirement; we design, deploy, and dominate with the risk tolerance and agility the modern battlespace demands.
What You Will Be Doing:
In this role, you will drive end to end product development initiatives with the rigor of a product manager, the entrepreneurial drive of a startup founder, and the technical authority of a chief engineer. Your core responsibilities will include the following:
• Leading program performance monitoring: cost, schedule, technical health, and key metrics
• Stewarding new concepts from ideation to capability delivery
• Forging and managing relationships with Fortune 50 commercial companies
• Collaborating with lines of Business, operations analysts, customers, and technologists to identify mission gaps and deliver value-added solutions
• Executing IRAD projects using spiral development from concept to proof of value testing
• Developing business cases, cost-benefit analysis, and ROI models for project proposals
• Assembling and leading multidisciplinary teams across the Enterprise to execute IRAD projects
• Defining, monitoring, and validating success criteria, Key Performance Parameters, and value drivers for performance assessment
• Cultivating strong customer relationships, conducting regular customer briefings, and establishing voice of customer feedback loops to identify warfighter needs
• Pathfinding and adopting new tools/methodologies for IRAD project execution and business process improvement
• Conducting continuous industry, technology, and competitive intelligence gathering
• Producing executive summaries, slide decks, and dashboards that translate technical and business details into strategic impact
Who You Are:
A strategic leader who thrives in fast‑paced environments and has a proven record of turning bold ideas into fielded capabilities. You possess a solid foundation in program management, engineering development, and manufacturing flows, coupled with a passion for defense technology. You excel at multidisciplinary collaboration, drive high‑complexity programs to successful completion, navigate ambiguity confidently, and bring a solutions‑oriented mindset to every challenge.
Why Join Us:
The RAT Team offers a rare blend of customers, products, technologies, and business models—providing abundant growth opportunities. You’ll work on unique projects spanning air, space, sea, land, and cyber, partner with Fortune 20 technology firms, and have the freedom to shape and develop your own products.
