Job Responsibilities
Description:DESIGN. DEPLOY. DOMINATE. Accelerate innovation. Accelerate victory. In today’s contested battlespace, speed becomes the warfighter’s decisive edge. By designing cutting edge systems, deploying them at unprecedented pace, and dominating the operational spectrum, we turn rapid innovation into tangible battlefield advantage.
Part of Technology & Strategy Initiatives (T&SI), Lockheed Martin’s Rapid Action Team (RAT) blends defense‑mission engineering with leading commercial technology to deliver scalable capabilities in under 24 months. Working “left of requirements,” we spot mission gaps early, prototype solutions with a lean, flat, agile structure, and partner with top commercial firms to get innovations directly to the warfighter. As a self‑starting, special‑operations‑style unit, we never wait for a budget line or formal requirement; we design, deploy, and dominate with the risk tolerance and agility the modern battlespace demands.
What You Will Be Doing:
As Head of Strategic Growth you will translate market and mission gaps into a prioritized capability pipeline and drive end‑to‑end product development with the RAT Technical Product Managers. Your core responsibilities will include the following:
• Conducting early‑stage market/technical analyses, building business cases and cost‑benefit and ROI models, and securing funding; partnering with Business‑Area BD teams to capture prospects using the “left of requirements” approach and position concepts for rapid transition before formal requirements are issued
• Cultivating strong relationships with government stakeholders, industry partners, academia, and national labs across the pursuit pipeline
• Leading regular customer briefings and establish voice‑of‑customer loops to surface warfighter needs
• Forging and managing partnerships with Fortune 50 commercial firms
• Collaborating with Lines of Business, analysts, customers, and technologists to validate gaps and deliver value‑added solutions
• Working with domestic and international counterparts to anticipate market shifts, identify partnership opportunities, and position the organization for growth
• Owning the portfolio strategy and innovation funnel, steering concepts from ideation through prototype and ensuring alignment with business objectives
• Performing continuous industry, technology, and competitive‑intelligence gathering
• Producing executive summaries, slide decks, and dashboards that turn technical and business details into clear strategic impact
Who You Are:
You are a customer centric strategic leader who thrives in fast paced, ambiguous environments and has a proven record of identifying and converting warfighter needs into fielded capabilities. With a solid foundation in program management, systems engineering, and product development, you excel at collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Why Join Us:
RAT offers a rare blend of customers, products, technologies, and business models, delivering growth and high‑performance opportunities. You’ll work on unique projects spanning air, space, sea, land, and cyber domains.
