Description:Looking beyond Orion, NASA’s next plans in deep space exploration include the construction of a system of collaborative units to support manned missions beyond low earth orbit. These systems include a crew-tended deep space habitat located near the Moon, as well as a Lunar Lander to enable human presence to and from the Moon. These systems will serve as a proving ground to develop the skills and technology necessary for long duration Mars missions. The CCS Human Spaceflight Exploration division of Advanced Programs is using IRAD funding to develop human space mission concepts to support habitat design as well as lunar lander concepts. Our team is interested in adding to the core team a highly-motivated engineer comfortable with working in a fast-paced dynamic environment to help NASA meet these challenges.

HSE AP is seeking a mission analyst to become part of our Concept Team in the development of our Lunar Lander design, as well as our Mars Base Camp, and other manned missions concepts in support of NASA's exploration goals. The candidate will perform orbital analysis in support of design reference missions in both cis-lunar space and the vicinity of Mars. These will include both chemical and electric propulsion designs for orbit insertion, and orbit transfer as well as missions to and from the lunar surface. The candidate will be a key member of the design team, under the mentorship of a lead analyst, to help determine propulsive designs, mission sequence operations and propellant requirements. The candidate will perform other systems engineering trades and systems analysis in refining the habitation, logistics, and propulsive elements. This individual will also assist in the preparation of Customer presentations and deliverables, and will support the Lead Mission Analyst in presenting results as needed to management and the NASA customer. The candidate will also provide support for multiple proposals requiring a broad range or orbital analysis.
Basic Qualifications:
0 - 3 years of experience related to orbital mechanics and mission design.
Knowledge of STK as an analysis and visualization tool
Basic understanding of NASA Concepts and Architectures.
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
Desired Skills:
Basic understanding of lunar and Mars landing trajectories
Basic understanding of interplanetary and cis-lunar trajectories
Proficiency in C/C++ or Visual Basic programming
Knowledge of electric propulsion concepts
Experience with proposal writing and/or publishing
