Typical steps you may take to plan and ease your transition:

• Take all courses offered through your Transition Assistance office
• Network with as many contacts as possible who have previously retired and/or transitioned from the military
• Research closely those career paths in which you have an interest
• Clearly define your private sector career goals and discuss these goals with potential hiring managers
• Remain flexible with regard to potential career paths and locations
• Search our website for applicable positions and apply directly to them online (tip: you can set up a "saved search agent" that will notify you of newly opened positions that match your skills)
• Speak directly with our Military Relations Managers and other hiring managers at military career job fairs we attend
