They are a dynamic of our business at Lockheed Martin.
Among our capabilities as a global company is our distinctive role in providing systems, technologies and solutions to the DoD, the Department of Homeland Security, the Intelligence Community and other sensitive sectors. The projects we assume for these types of clients are often critical to the nation's safety and security - and they involve information that must be carefully tracked and guarded. This is why our workforce includes professionals who are cleared.

While not all the jobs we offer require clearance...
a fair number of them do - whether they are filled by new college graduates, experienced professionals, or transitioning military personnel. We invite you to read further to see if a cleared career path is right for you.

Why have a security clearance?
That's an excellent question. There are many benefits to holding a cleared designation:

  • You will have the option to work on a greater number and variety of technical programs and projects - opportunities that would otherwise not be available to you due to their sensitive and critical nature;

  • Often times, projects that require cleared professionals involve today's most cutting-edge solutions and technologies;

  • Having a clearance generally widens and increases your chances for career movement and advancement;

  • Even a security designation that has lapsed is valuable. Companies are more willing to hire individuals who have demonstrated they can pass the background investigation that precedes the clearance. In addition, depending on how long it has been since you last had clearance, the investigation process can take much less time than for people who have never been cleared.

Details about security clearances.
You may have questions regarding the topic of security clearances. Like how do I obtain one? Why is it needed? The information here will provide you with a clearer understanding of security clearances.

A security clearance is...
a determination by the United States government that a person is eligible for access to classified information.

There are basically three levels of security clearance...
that individuals can obtain for purposes of employment at Lockheed Martin. These levels are: Confidential, Secret and Top Secret. (C, S and TS).

We will sponsor your clearance...
if you do not have a clearance designation or if your designation has lapsed. Obtaining security clearances for employees is a routine part of our hiring function. We are well versed in all its requirements and nuances. We will initiate your application, walk you through the application and investigatory elements, and beyond.

The process begins with an application...
for a security clearance. The amount of information requested in the application depends on the type of cleared designation that is being pursued. Required details may include past and current work history, locations in which you have lived, the names of roommates and friends, financial history, travel history, groups or affiliations, and more.

A background investigation is a must...
the scope of which varies, based on the level of the clearance being sought. The investigation generally includes:

    verification of U.S. citizenship; a polygraph; fingerprinting; a test for illegal drugs; credit and records checks; interviews with former and current colleagues, neighbors, friends, professors; a search of investigative files and other records at Federal agencies; a search for criminal records; a personal interview with you; etc.

Once you have your security clearance...
it must be kept "active." This is accomplished by passing a reinvestigation, the time frame of which depends on the level of your clearance (Top Secret, reinvestigation every five years. Secret, every ten years. Confidential, every fifteen years).

We invite you to explore our Cleared Job Opportunities, whether you have an active clearance, a lapsed clearance, or have never been cleared.
